Just got the press release.

http://gotorontofc.com/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1028

Toronto FC announced Friday they have signed Argentine midfielder Martin Saric. Saric was signed as a free agent after spending much of the pre-season with the club. As per league and team rules, financial details were not released.

What do you expect for a 30 year old midfielder that is surounded by more midfielders?

I can't believe we spent so long with Saric and Cann in camp and no strikers brought in for a long amount of time than Dickov?

Happy to see we are adding someone AT ALL. Still need a power forward and someone strong at back.

Also, am listening to Preki's interview with 590. Highly recommend it if you want to glean some insight into the roster moves we've been seing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Saric a winger? Something we don't exactly have an abundance of.

Yeah that's what I thought... I wouldn't be surprised to see him and LaBrocca flanking our midfield.

I'm still disappointed Kayizzi never signed with us though.

It sounds like it was either Saric OR Kayizzi and it probably came down to $$

looks about right
dont think peterson will be used as a striker unless its necessary, hes been described everywhere as a winger, i think we will see Ibrahim as a striker often enough too

Shaughno
03-26-2010, 06:49 PM
Peterson is a sort of attacking winger from what I seem to remember. Lots of speed and he seemed to have some skill, but he's coming back from a knee injury right? Fairly serious one too? Probably will be similar to OBW from last season... but I hope he fairs well when he does play.

correct, i guess he can play on the left?
im not sure id assume so and we can prob expect to see him there when fit.
i like the idea of two fit talented wingers serving our strikers

Agreed Brook... and after finally listening to the Preki interview, I'm actually semi-content going into Saturday. I'm not necessarily looking for a win, just a proper performance from a 'team'. Something we seriously shouldn't have been called many times last season.

So true.

I'd rather see wins of course but solid effort as a team is still something I can support. I want to be proud of the team I support through the good times and bad.

Yup, as long as they're working hard for each other and playing the full 90 I'll take that. And with Preki's defensive minded style I think we can do alright.

But the fans liked him in Romania.

After seeing him in action this past wknd, I now see why...

He looked like nothing but a glorified Kevin Harmse,
w/ the temper to boot....

This guy looked like a straight-red candidate, and we've already seen what Harmse's "10-man-power-play" does for TFC :picard:

I didn't know much about his style of play, but damn! I hope his salary is under 80k....

You're aware that Kevin Harmse had a total of 1 (one) red card in his TFC career, right?

Yep. Harmse's problem was bad tackles in bad positions, not red cards.

I feel the same way. Not sure what to make of him quite yet. He doesn't have the most impressive resume, and I'll be honest, over the last few years I've grown to become quite cynical when it comes to new signings. Show me the value first on the pitch, and THEN I'll be on board. I've been let down too often with our signings to really feel positive about any future ones.

Interesting stuff on Saric, because I think he looks like a better version of Robbo.

This is Wynnes REplacement. . I hope he has a good mind for checking back and getting into some Deeeeee-fence

We have attacking mids in spades, and when JDG and Dero click. . . . that understanding is where our offence will becoming from. . you can see it budding now, but once that clicks I think a lot of the sour notes around here will turn to sweet sugar pie. . . . cant wait.

Shaughno

I'm still wondering why we're playing Cronin on the wing, and Saric in the middle when both of them are technically being played out of position that way. Saric has been a right sided player most of his career and Cronin is a MC/DM with the ability to play on the wings.

Plus last game we had Cronin on the left and Gala on the right. Which is weird as well, because Gala is a LW'r and Cronin usually plays on the right when he does play out of the middle.

My only guess is that Preki wants players to cut inside and be able to shoot and/or keep possession.

Maybe... unless we keep Nana in the middle and put Gargan at RB, his natural position.

agreed.

though one point in his favour was the toughness he showed after the injury on sat

Yeah I thought he 'ok' considering...

Plus, he looked to be hungry for action which I think you'll see becoming a mainstay with players as long as Preki's around.

Saric had some really bad passes that caused a few turnovers last game. The rest of his play seemed ok to me but man am I nervous about someone who can give it away like that. I will not pass judgement as yet though since it was only one game. First day jitters and all that.

Considering JDG had just as many fuckups as Saric did, from what I remember.... I'll let the team have a 'bye' when it comes to the Columbus game and overall criticism.

JDG seems to be use to guys who move off the ball, it makes him look stupid, but really many of his intentions seem to be smart. I think he is going to miss having a Guevara around who did find that open space. Saric doesn't seem to fit that bill... no one we've added does really.

Good point and on top of that JDG was just a bit lazy on the ball against Columbus, otherwise he is phenomenal at turning players and keeping possession.
