So this is the table

Toronto FC---1-0-0 /+1/3 points
L'impact------1-1-0/+1/3 points
Whitecaps FC-0-1-0/-2/0 points

The question now is, what are the tie-breaker rules (after points)..

I read somewhere that after points, the first tie-breaker is goals for (not goal differential). This is huge. Because if we say lose a game and do not beat Vancouver by the same margin as Montreal did (2-0), the Impact go thru.

Obviously, we still have a game in hand, but regardless, must know what the tie-breaker rules are to know where we stand.

dont forget that every team plays each other twice.

Montreal's remaining games are both on the road. They had 1 loss at home.

We won our first game on the road. We've given up 2 goals at home all season.

I don't quite think it's time to panic yet.

I can't wait till July 1. If the Caps keep up with the Impact then they won't be a walk in the park. Here's to a Canadian sellout crowd for 2 Canadian teams.

I fail to see how the Impact has the driver seat if we're level on points with a game in hand and home games to play.

Yeah they're more in A driver's seat...

And they have played an extra game and both of their games at home.

This thing is not even close. We will win both home games, and whatever we do in Vancouver won't matter. :taz:

If no MLS team can manage to win at BMO Field, I don't see how Montreal or Vancouver can do it. I do want to see Ibrahim plays in one of the games.

Which means Jack squat until you're equal on points and games played. Game in hand and two home games to play we definitely are in the driver's seat.

Barnsl;ey should have not been able to tough Liverpool in the FA cup this season...but look at the end result............ liverpool out.
lets not take the USL team lightly that may bite us in the end.

the tie-breaker is AWAY goals, of which the Impact have none. Im really not very worried about them

^^ Critical info right there. Of which we are the only team to obtain any at this point. :D Again... driver seat=us.

^Yup. Montreal is at best a passenger. If they had lost yesterday, they'd be the guy in the trunk about to be assassinated by the mob. Or maybe a loose suitcase on the roofrack about to fall off. Or... well you get the idea. :D

i'm disappointed by the lack of a draw...

now we can't win the Championship on July 1st

we can all but solidify it on July 1 with a win over Vancouver, and Vancouver beating Montreal in the next game, based on goal differential

We'll have to wait till the game after to clinch

And on that note, somebody needs to edit the thread title..."Impact in driver's seat (not really though)"

oops, i had heard the tie breaker was away goals, but it appears to be goal differential. Montreal and us are both plus 1, and Vancouver is minus 2

here's all the tie breaker info: http://www.canadasoccer.com/eng/media/viewArtical.asp?sub=1&Press_ID=3107

let's not forget that before anyone looks at the GD they'll look at the points and we won't lose at home 7 games in the MLS show us that, and Vancouver is full of our cast-offs. And as for the liverpool-barnsely thing that was a single game knockout not a league format in league formats the cream (us) always rises to the top

finally, somebody answers the question posed, as opposed to offering mindless drivel

"All three teams will play four games - two at home and two on the road. There will be three points awarded for a win and one point awarded for a draw. In case two teams are tied on points after four matches, the winner will be decided first by goal differential, then if necessary by most goals scored, then if necessary by most away goals, then if necessary by the drawing of lots."

Very strange. The driver's seat seems to be in the trunk.

You make a good point but I doubt Barnsley would've gotten past Liverpool if it was over two games. If anything Montreal did us a favour here, taking points away from the only team we might not be able to beat.
