Preki is building Toronto FC from the back, and he has one of the league's best goalkeepers in Frei. The next Preki priority is to find a forward to replace Gerba.

I think he is going in right direction, unfortunately we are not in year 1 anymore and year 4 starts in 2 days.

One thing is if Preki can get a defensive system together that works TFC can have a successful season. You can't lose if the other team doesn't score. One positive to take from pre-season is that aside from the NYRB game TFC was never blown out fo the water. While individually the players at the back may not be the greatest if they can come together as a unit they can be strong.

They may be thinking about bringing him back. Especially if we start badly. The fans are seriously grumpy and this would give us something else, anything else, to talk about. We all know DD had something left.

Although I agree, it's year 1 for Preki and he's going to build the team he wants....unfortunately it'll take some time.

My argument here is that in most games, even the best defensive systems make at least one or two mistakes. In Carolina, those mistakes ended up being capitalized upon by our opponents.

A 1-0 deficit might as well be 10-0 if you haven't got an offensive threat.

From the soccernet.com article: Preki takes on rebuilding project in Toronto (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=760872&sec=mls&root=mls&cc=5901)

The defense in front of Stefan Frei will be built around Nick Garcia, a former Preki teammate in Kansas City.

I pray to all mighty god that he is wrong or trying to be funny.....otherwise, god help us.

That's 100% true. You can't win any games if you never score. Since it is obvious that we don't have an abundance of scoring threats I would think that the D is Preki's main focus right now.

Just keeping positive.

What Coach says is true. But Preki, as far as I'm concerned, needs time to build his side given the mess he inherited.

And can you blame him for trying to sort out the back as best he can first?

Well, that puts a positive spin on things! Enough of this negativity about the team and all of Mo's screw-ups! I am finally excited for the season and the $15 beers at BMO (okay, maybe not the latter...)!

positive is good.

in season 2 Mo tried to build us a fast attacking team with Barrett and Vitti, thinking that the average MLS defense is poop, games would be won by tearing them up. Unfortunately, those two strikers couldn't rip apart a tissue with a switchblade. Now the team is thinking in the other direction - that the key to winning is a sold defence? It boggles my mind that these people are just figuring that out.

I wonder if Taxi did them again. I wasn't a huge fan of the ticket poster last season (it was a very good idea, just not for me)

Any bets on what goodies will be in there? I'm thinking scarf for sure. Would be cool if they put stickers in there (like when you buy a mac or hang out with parkdale).

We've had headbands (the carlsberg ones), wristbands....hmmm...maybe a TFC anklet?

I just read Jeremy Loome's article. If there's a 2nd DP slot for TFC, I could see DeRo hoping for something. Perhaps another shitstorm on the horizon.

might as well give it to him instead of going for another DP elsewhere. between DeRo and JDG, we are already spending 33% of cap money between just 2 players anyways

They count for the max salary for non-DP's.

For example JDG can be making $3m but only $415,000 counts towards the cap.

That's what I figured. Just that the article suggested the 2nd DP slot may be a solution to some of TFC's problems, if they use it to sign a good new striker.

I'm just thinking, first they would have to have the 400k cap room for a 2nd DP (or whatever the cap hit is this year), and DeRo would be pissed again.

Anyway, we shall see!!! I guess... at some point.... ....

if TFC did use the 2nd DP spot on a striker, it'd like like LA Galaxy of 08 all over. Few awesome players, rest of the team sucks

Actually, they're talking about the second DP coming in at a substantial discount, like $150,000 or so less than the 1st DP's cap hit.

But yeah, we'd have to clear some space again to make it happen. They could buy someone out of their deal, ala Gerba, say a certain $199,000 lead weight on defence. That would cover most of the difference. If we have any allocation left at all, as a new signing it could cover the balance this year.
