Might. I at minimum loathe The Crew, but it would sure be nice to see at least one MLS Team do well in the CCL.

Isn't that every night in Columbus, regardless of the weather? :D

I'd like to hope at least one MLS team can stay alive but I'm not seeing it. Toluca plays at the highest altitude of any team in Mexico so the return leg is likely to be a bloodbath no matter what happens tonight.

I'm guessing 1,500 inbreds make the effort tonight.

at least their supporters corner showed up. I do not for the life of me understand why this type of game has no support! they advanced out of the group stage...this may the biggest game they've ever played!

Don't worry. It'll be much better when we see TFC, Seattle, Portland and Philly together in the CCL in a couple years.

I'm kind of pulling for the Crew. Regarding the above post, Seattle is playing their qualifier in practise facility.

Aren't MLS teams always going to be at a disadvantage with this CCL schedule? FMF is nine games into the Clausura already.

The Crew is heading to a thumping, despite a bright start. A lot of their errors look like fitness to me.

He created and scored both, the second a volley he took directly off his own chest.

Seriously, he's adding skills to his already considerable fighting instinct and about to become a monster striker.

That he plays for Columbus, of course, blows intensely.

Geoff Cameron at Houston is another guy with that same combination of touch and intensity. They might both end up in the Prem somewhere.

Lenhart has a worse scoring rate in MLS than Chad Barrett at almost the same age.. what are you guys talking about?

UltraSuperMegaMo

^ True, but he really looked the business against Toluca. One of his goals was of very high quality. Barrett seems to be trending down or stagnating, Lenhart seems to be on his way up.

The Krew carried themselves quite well for an off-season form club. You can see that they really wanted to win, and getting a result when they were down 2 goals is a testimony to that.

They have really good organization and play a short-passing game overall. Those things all come down to good coaching, something that we hope TFC will have this year. Lenhart really shone in the match. Maybe OBW or even Barrett can do the same with proper organization.

The really sad thing was how few fans showed up. I would predict at least 19K at BMO, despite the cold, or 25K+ if it was at the Rogers Centre.

I totally disagree with everybody laughing about Lenhart becoming a good player. He was a handful in many games I watched him in last year. Much more than Barrett ever could be. If he starts putting the ball in the net on a regular basis he will be even more of a problem.

I can't stand the guy but part of me wishes we had guys that played with that kind of intensity and desire.

Chevy

+1. He's big, awkward, looks like a mutant cabbage patch kid, BUT he works his tail off and (gasp) consistently puts the ball in the back of the net.

Yeah, and you can't compare his games to goal ratio ala Barrett, as most of Lenhart's appearances before last season were late game, from the bench. Plus, strikers mature. They're not usually expected to hit their prime until ages 26-29, regardless of the odd exception (i.e. Rooney, Owen). So we might see a lot more from both players.

But Lenhart seems a better finisher than Chad, though he's mostly been used as a supportive, irksome forward, breaking up the backline for moreno and Schellotto.

"seems" a better finisher? What's this based on?

According to the ratio stats, which adjust for playing time, Lenhart is exactly the same as Chad Barrett.

I have no prediction on whether he'll be a better striker than Chad Barrett or whether he'll improve, but I saw the guy as a big lumbering forward who flubbed chances last year. And the stats show he had about the same % of shots on goal/shots as Chad Barrett and almost the same scoring rate as Chad Barrett. Of course Chad Barrett gets slammed every week and a KKKrew player gets praised by opposition fans for one good game ;)

This is in no way a defense of Chad Barrett. I'm just saying the gushing over Lenhart is not founded on objective analysis.

If Freddy Montero (who many said would score 20 goals in MLS) can score 12 in a season, Lenhart ain't gonna crack 10. He might score 6-9, which is what Chad Barrett does, and score the occasional cracking goal, which Chad Barrett does (when he doesn't think too much).

Saw that number and shook my head as well. Hears that the tickets for the game were substantially higher priced than usual Crew seats were. That definitely would have had an impact.

Meh, Rocker is mostly right. Lenhart really hasn't proven anything more on paper than say a Barrett. However, he does appear to be better at applying himself in a way that frustrates the shit out of other teams.

But, it is early days yet for him. In totality, Barrett has played in MLS for three more years (and if you believe the MLSNET stats) and about 6000 minutes more playing time.

Towards the end of last year, you could kind of tell he was improving. I'll be interested to see how he does over a full season.

Nice to know our league is linked to people who's past behavior suggests they'd open Popsicle stands in Alaska.

I'd like to hear their rationale behind this one. Maybe it was a case of they'd draw 4k no matter what so might as well price it at $25 per head. But it seems more likely some clusterfuck who didn't understand his customer thought it was a great idea and it blew up in his face.

It's always "something" isn't it?

That said, I'm surprised they drew over 4k, even though half were supporting the Mexican side.
