Toronto FC featured 37-year-old Paul Dickov in attack, who was dangerous throughout the first half.

Dickov has played for a boatload of English clubs, but his best years came at Manchester City, where he scored 35 times in 158 appearances. But, if one game is an indication, he looked as if he could handle the pace.

Interesting to read. Maybe we've underestimated him, especially since Leeds is still interested...

^^ Dickov is back in the UK I think now.

Paul Dickov, meanwhile, flew back into England yesterday morning after training with MLS side Toronto at their Florida training camp. He is hoping to earn a short-term contract at Elland Road.

These words by Preki are very encouraging:

"It was a good days work and the group is making progress. They are working hard for each other and that is very nice to see. The best thing about it is that our goalkeeper never touched the ball throughout the game. He didn't have to make a save," he explained.

This is largely the same TFC whose GK, whether Sutton or Frei had to stand on their heads each game just to give them a chance. We still have Nick "own goal" Garcia. We still have mostly the same players who gave up in the last 15 minutes of almost every game.

Maybe what we needed all along was proper defensive coaching.

D.C.'s view of the pre-season match, a very different perspective than TFC's:

After the match Onalfo stated, "We really pushed our guys along physically this week, and whenever you do that guys end up being a little bit leggy and you lose some of the sharpness."

Yup. It was there stated at the begining of the trial that he would return to the UK for other tryouts (Leeds).

Really I can see this whole CBA thing holding things up. They need some kind of solid understanding before going out and getting someone a little higher up on the pay ladder IMO.

Yep, Dickov's back in the UK according to the Yorkshire Post.

Some on these boards have. I've been a huge fan of his since his days at City. Never a prolific scorer at top level but MLS is not top level. The thing with Dicky is that he is so busy chasing the ball, he shields it well for a wee fella and he will often draw other defenders towards him, thereby freeing up other teammates.
I hope Preki gives him a 1 year deal. I guarantee all the naysayers will rethink their position once they see him run thru walls for this club.

"We had plenty of opportunities and hit the crossbar and the post. Sometimes you have days like this where you totally dominate the game and you feel more like you lost the point instead of gaining a point."

Is this Deja Vu for anyone else?

Being an Arsenal supporter as well as a TFC supporter, I can say yes, this is all too familiar for me...

Encouraging indeed, however I'd like to think that we are not going to stop looking for a proper CB. We still lack the leadership in the back centre who can move the ball up properly and shut down opposition attacks.

As you mentioned, this is the same bunch of guys who showed brilliance one game and then absolute incompetence the next.

I'm certainly hoping so. Guess it all depends on the CBA and how his trial goes with Leeds...

As I was taking a look at the coed girls I notice the second one has a link to Joss Stone playing tonsil hockey (http://theblemish.com/2009/03/joss-stone-has-good-technique/joss-stone-snappers-02/) with some other girl.

Good times.

Also whether Leeds can convince FIFA to waive their usual rule that a player can only play for up to 2 teams within a single league within a single year.

That's true, forgot about that clause. Hopefully that'll play out in our favour if Dickov's trial went well...

Dickov is a complete A-hole to play against...he's fiesty, works hard and battles and even though he's only 5ft 5, he wont back down from anyone. I hope we sign him!

I won't put much stock in anything that's happening in pre-season. Coaches always have different motivations behind playing these practice matches, it rarely boils down to the best 11 v 11 playing the way they would during the season.

Both sides yesterday had some notable absences.
