Following a brief period as an unattached player on trial, Gargan was signed by Chivas USA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chivas_USA) on April 25, 2008, But announced his retirement from professional soccer, citing personal reasons, on May 9, 2008 without playing a game.

True enough, pre-season is pre-season. But I just wonder about a 1-1 result against a University team, that's all. Would be nice to see us roll over those teams - give us an early morale booster.

Yes, that's true. And how did our season turn out, again? Only kidding. I agree that this is really a meaningless game when it comes to the result. We're obviously in a low gear at this stage, and I'm confident that in a few weeks time when the lads are in better shape, and when we add DeGuzman and DeRo, we'd thump the same University team 5-0.

All good!

This happens all the time. Columbus lost to a U-17 side the year that they went on to win the double.

Look at the people who played. Gargan, Kayizzi, Joseph, and Gilstrap. Not to mention perpetual benchwarmers like Gala, Ibrahim, Gomez, and Sanyang. And newby Harden.

This was a TRAINING match. Some of these players probably just met one another yesterday. Most of the players met Preki last week. The two best players on the roster didn't even set foot on the pitch. Let's wait a few weeks before we start expecting Brazil circa 1970 out there.

Just sayin'.

Oh I agree. It's really just the pride on our part that was a little bit hurt. You'd think that even with our weakest line-up, and in the earliest days of our pre-season, we'd kick the living daylights out of a University team. Seriously! But again, I'm fine with the result (performance, whatever) and look forward to more pre-season games - and the season itself.

Steve

Gala, Kayizzi, and Gargan were putting in some good crosses.

Which is probably exactly what Preki had planned for the game. He say Toronto, saw that last year we attacked from the middle only (with predictable results) and saw that we lacked real wide players. So, he probably went into this game (the first game in a long time) by saying "let's see you work the flanks". He probably wanted to see what kind of crosses some of these players could put up, so he knows who to concentrate on for the rest of preseason. Of course, with you're playing to trial and not to win you tend to be more predictable for the other team, but since winning didn't matter anyway, who cares?
