NHL

2009-2010 Salary cap

-- The Upper Limit: $56,800,000
-- The Lower Limit: $40,800,000

-------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------
Translating this to MLS structure (assume the league paying lower limit/floor is $1.9 mil)

-- The Upper Limit: $56,800,000 = $2.65 mil
-- The Lower Limit: $40,800,000 = $1.9 mil

Translating this to MLS structure (assume the league paying lower limit/floor is $2.0 mil)

-- The Upper Limit: $56,800,000 = $2.78 mil
-- The Lower Limit: $40,800,000 = $2.00 mil

Translating this to MLS structure (assume the league paying lower limit/floor is $2.1 mil)

-- The Upper Limit: $56,800,000 = $2.92 mil
-- The Lower Limit: $40,800,000 = $2.10 mil

MLS will pay the lower limit/floor for each team. The team I/O will be responsible for the amount above the lower limit/floor. Assume that DP Rule is the same for both MLS hard cap and NHL-style hard cap.

MLB

-------------MLB's current collective bargaining agreement sets a 'payroll threshold' each season that is somewhat similar to a salary cap. For the 2007 season, this threshold has been set at $148 million ($155 million in 2008). Should the average annual value of a team's total salary contracts surpass this threshold in any year, they pay a 'tax' on the amount over the threshold. ---------------
