News from KC.

The Wizards waived defender Rauwshan McKenzie and dropped defender Ofori Sarkodie, midfielder Eric Gehrig and forward Kyle Brown from their preseason roster this weekend.
A fourth round draft pick by the Wizards in 2008, McKenzie started five contests for Kansas City last season. McKenzie also made one appearance for the Wizards in 2008, starting against the then-USL Seattle Sounders in a quarterfinal of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Sarkodie, formerly of Indiana University, was drafted by the Wizards in the fourth round of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. Former Loyola University Chicago midfielder Eric Gehrig and former Austin Aztex forward Kyle Brown joined the Wizards as trialists before the 2010 preseason.

wasn't that guy highly touted?

5 reasons why Toronto FC will make the playoffs in 2010 (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/blogs/2010/02/5_reasons_why_toronto_fc_will.html)

All things come to those who wait, or so it is written. For all we know it was actually written by a crusty old hermit who won the lottery, married a surgically enhanced bimbo 60 years his junior and died of gluttony within a year of his good fortune.

Fans of Toronto FC have waited and waited for things to start arriving, and are still waiting. They are waiting for the team they embraced three years ago, and into which they have invested a considerable financial and emotional commitment, to start giving back....Cont'd

It's a good start, I guess, though the only "remedy" he seems to suggest is to pay bloggers and give away the content for free. Okay, I vote 'yes,' good ideas both.

He says, "Meanwhile, outside of the odd comprehensive blogger or goal.com, the general public -- thousands of whom follow soccer closely -- is left with the ongoing frustration of feeling like they never quite know what's going on."

That's interesting but I'd like to have a couple of examples. Probably something specific sparked him to write this piece and I'm curious what it is.

this is my fave part of Nigel's article...

We all know how important home advantage is in soccer and there is no reason why BMO Field cannot be the clichéd “fortress” it should be. The atmosphere should frighten the life out of visiting teams and give TFC a crucial psychological edge before a ball is kicked. It only takes 10 or 11 regular season wins and a handful of draws to make the playoffs. There are 15 home games (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/story/2010/02/03/sp-soccer-tfc-mls.html) - you do the math.

Hmmm that isn't what I got from that. What I got was more "open lines of communication" and especially lowering the censorship that goes on with the league as well as here in TO. Controlled media will not help grow the sport or teams.

I can only speculate but your second paragraph ... well I mean - do you go to TFC.com for the real info on the team? No, you come here! :D Everything there is sugar coated with a cherry on top.

It's largely that, to someone who assigned stories for years, it's very frustrating to watch the dissolution of media quality spill over into how companies actually handle their media relations.

Companies need to realize that properly serving their fan base means picking up much more of the media slack themselves; it doesn't have to be prohibitively expensive, it just means picking up more experienced staff, having tougher daily goals for information production, and recognizing and supplying the information fans want to read about.

For example, can anyone see a logical reason why TFC hasn't released a full roster for players at training camp? A few interviews with trialists? An update on the physio situation? An update on the turf situation? A piece on scouting techniques and norms? What about fun features for the younger fans using the academy kids, even just pieces on playing technique?

Football fans are SPONGES. We will take anything they give. But if companies rely on the media to be the vanguard of coverage, they're kidding themselves and shortchanging their fans.

In some respects we're lucky, because in terms of general direction TFC seems to get this. But there's so much that can be improved on.

He's a striker and the number 9 has significance as such. If retiring the number 9 was in the mindset of anyone here, we can forget that, because 9 will always end up in the hands of a striker eventually.

TFC not to blame for lack of Canadian talent (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/tfc-not-to-blame-for-lack-of-canadian-talent/article1460745/)

Solution to this problem: create our own league. Pro soccer clubs will do a better job than CSA when comes to developing young players. Right now, we don't have enough pro soccer teams in Canada. It's time for Canada to grow up and form a league. Every country (including most 3rd world countries) in this world have their own league, why can't Canada? We got resources, money and passion of forming a successful pro Canadian soccer league. MLS isn't going to help Canadian players that much. 3 MLS Canadian teams and couple Canadian USL teams isn't enough!

I say Canadian league, too. I think a Canadian soccer league would do better than MLS after a while. Partly because Canadian cities wouldn't have to compete with baseball (or college sports) - there's only the CFL in the summer in most Canadian cities and that's only eight home games.

That just looks like a big untapped market to me. And the chance to play in a Champions League would still mean competition against MLS teams and more.

Maybe he's gotten his ass into shape and is working hard for Preki?

Let the management do as they will. If they suck again this year, we can slag them during the year. They make zero decisions based on our offseason grumblings.

"I think we've thought about it, we've dealt with it and we've moved on," Garcia stated. "It's a completely different team mindset right now."

I wish Garcia would fuckin' move on.

No surprise the useless twat isn't dwelling on the defeat too much.

Not that it really matters but the CFL has an 18 game season so it would be nine home games.

Article rings true in my opinion.

I really don't care about the spice boy or any of that BS, but clearly we get very little of the advantages as MLS is too concerned with force feeding the needy, who don't particularly want to eat.
