Current system: Club get 2/3 and MLS gets 1/3 of the transfer fee received. Reports suggest that MLS pays for transfer fee (??? or is it a combination of MLS and the I/O?).

Should MLS allow club I/O to pay 100% of the transfer fee and receive 100% of transfer fee? How would this affect the league? Would it benefit MLS or hurt the league?

I seem to recall Mo Edu going to Rangers for a cool $5M.

Or is that too easy?

Something is needed to fund the league as the league pays all the players. Even so, the league is not getting enough cash, and has had to assess the clubs for additional cash. Keep the system as it is.

You know MLS has a 'cash/capital call' from each team each year right? Read the Portland MLS Study. This cash call covers any deficit in league operations.

That's what I'm referring to. "assess" is just another word for "cash/capital call."

I think individual clubs should be the sole owner of any transfer dollars they receive from selling players. The league (by splitting owernship) has got inself into more than a few stupid situations. Holden and Clark just left on free transfers ffs ... that would never happen if:

The clubs were actually allowed to keep all the money they receive from transfers and spend it on new players. To me, they should just keep a running + / - for transfers and anything you've gained you can spend over time but you can never go below zero (just to keep within the leagues conservative mindset).

So i guess i agree with half of it. Allowing clubs to spend anything they want on transfers would be a disaster. NY and LA would blow everyone out of the water.
