View Full Version : What away games are you looking at?

Now that the schedule is out, what away games are you looking at planning to attend? Of course, everything is dependant on variables, but just as a brief overview, which of these games appeals to you most? I will try to setup the poll so you can select multiple choices.

I was hoping to go to Philly and NY this year but since the Montreal NCC game is also mid-week I simply cannot take the time off work for another mid-week game.

I am not happy with this schedule at all. We also have a lot of away games late in the year which means if we are struggling for a playoff spot (and let's face it, this is TFC, that will likely be the case) we are going to have something of a disadvantage.

I don't know who puts these schedules together but they did TFC absolutely no favours.

Hopefully this year our home and away form will be more in synch w/o the FT, so maybe the back loaded away schedule won't be so bad.

Philly followed by KC probably means KC is out for me. I'm looking at one trip a month from July to Sept. In Oct definitely going to Seattle. DC season closer, would like to but money will be tight by then (plus, we will have playoff games to go to this year, yes?).

So right now New England, Philly, NY and DC are getting the most love.

New England is going to be huge.

And if we are in the playoff hunt, I think DC will be as well.

Although I can understand the enthusiasm and desire to go, I get the feeling mid-week games like Philly and NY will be short on representation despite what the poll says.

There's always big momentum to travel at the beginning of the season... when hopes are riding high. I'll be flying to Boston (how do I get tickets in the AWAY supporters section?) Because it is easy I'll probably drive down to Columbus to support the team...

My view of AWAY games I've been to thus far:

Chicago - July '08
- Toyota Park is really inconvenient to get to but Chitown is awesome especially if you can get to the Cubbies also, flew down for $400, spent a lot of money generally

Columbus - March '09
- 7 hour drive was a piece of cake, loved the tailgate, in stadium madness was made by the big numbers and high number of people drinking lots, not too excited about the rest of the "city", whole weekend was fairly cheap

D.C. - May '09
- flew down, 3-3 score made it memorable... still can't believe Wynne's handball, good bars in and around D.C., top-level sightseeing on Sunday despite hangover, RFK was crud but still a great time, "TFC allez... TFC until I die"

You guys have convinced me to give Kansas City a try. It is also the most convenient date, being on a long weekend.

I'm really pissed off that the Chicago game is mid-week. It's an awesome town and I'd love to go see some footy there.

Dallas is a longshot, but being on labour-day weekend you never know. I usually take my vacations in early September, after the crowds and prices have dropped off, so I may plan a vacation in Texas this year. Never been there.

There is no "best" option for travelling...

Its all what you prefer...

I know some people don't like the long bus trips. Personally, I LOVE the long bus trips... I enjoy them more than driving on my own, or flying in some cases...

I've driven to Columbus, and bussed to Columbus - loved the bus and had a much better time...

I've flown to Chicago, and bussed to Chicago - loved the bus and had a much better time...

I've flown to DC - and had a blast on that flight, but never went there any other way LOL...

Its all about what experience and what you enjoy and can get through...

In short, no wrong or right answer - just personal preference...

Anyway you decide to get to an away game - you'll have a great time...

Road trips with this group are awesome...

I know it's probably not the way you intended it to come across, but I really am tired of people making this argument that somehow if people don't go to Columbus, the players won't feel our support.

And the argument falls completely flat because the plain fact is that throughout the season, there are only a select few games where away fans are represented. Does this mean the team is not supported at games where there are no TFC fans?

Really, unless TFC fans go to every single away game in the schedule, it really comes down to which games we choose to make the effort to go. It just so happens this year it's New England. And regardless of the game we choose to attend, believe me the players are fully aware and appreciative of the support of Toronto fans regardless of which games we go to.

Roogsy,

I agree with your points above. I like to support the team on the road as much as I can. I simply meant that Columbus is a doable game for me this year and probably for the years to come so I'm not prepared to "boycott" going there based on previous treatment, real or perceived, by the Crew F.O. If by me driving to Columbus for a weekend I can add to those wearing red in support of our team in Crew Stadium... I will.

The point I was trying to make is that supporting TFC is more of a priority for me than playing along with a blanket boycott of going to Columbus.

So according to this very informal poll, it looks as though the big trips this year are New England (YEAH BABY!), Philly and New York (both understandable).

These are followed closely by DC, Chicago and Columbus.

The good thing is that we could use this to help us to identify trips that will require group planning. Looks like away games will be well supported this year. Let's hope the owners and the players can work out a CBA so nothing gets interrupted.
