I remember seeing Baptiste in the CCL, easily Joe Public's best player. He plays a very "street" style. He needs to couple it with discipline (hard work rate, better learning of positioning and when to pass) to become a really good player. Maybe Preki can supply the discipline. Of course, he's trying for England first, and I don't blame him.

Those passes he was making were top notch balls played into the box, however their players just showed how they cant finish them.

I would sign him, looks better than Cronin

Looks good. He scored 48 goals last season apparently.

Don't forget, Trinidad's Pro League is not exactly the EPL. More like USL-2. Still, it's a promising stat.

^^ reminds me of Gregory Richardson signing from last year. Least we got a 2nd pick for him.

Trial certainly can't hurt. For a guy who is 28 his skill set looks kind of raw.

His domestic pedigree is much better than Richardson's, but he's had trials overseas before. In fact, it was advertised last season that he was coming on trial with us, then it never happened.

Joe Public is owned by El Corrupto, Jack Warner, so maybe he just threw him the right incentives. But my understanding is that this is at least his third set of trials in England.

Also, although The Trinidadian League is of lower quality, it's a general truism that third- and fourth-tier professional leagues can lead to very inflated goal scoring stats. Marlon James, at Vancouver, had 120 professional goals in the prior 128 professional games before heading to the Whitecaps, and they've since loaned him to their PDL team.

... for a rehabbing stint coming off an injury.

Holy misrepresentation, Batman!

Not sure if he's going to fill the void at striker with TFC or even if he ends up trialing here, but I like the idea of going after someone with a less pedigree but a strong history of scoring goals. Look a Vitti for example, he had pedigree, with a big SA team, played in Europe, U20 success, but is lacked a history of scoring goals and it showed.

I second Rudi's sentiment about Marlon James, he scored 9 goals in 17 appearances last year, that's not too bad.

Yeah, that kind of implies deliberate, Rudi, which is also misrepresentation. Didn't know he was rehabbing, that's all.

And 9 in 17 in USL is a hell of a long way from 120 in 128 anywhere. He's 28 and hasn't made it off the Island yet; trials don't hurt, but I wouldnt' expect this to be hugely productive.

of course that's the USL.

knock off a few goals if a guy like James were to play in a higher league (MLS) and he's not worth a look. particularly at such an advanced age (33). A guy with a much better pedigree, Sebastian Letoux, who's younger than both these guys, went from 24 goals in 54 in the USL to 1 in 28 in MLS and now is gone from Seattle.

Baptiste would be more promising if he were 22 or somethin...

a trial never hurts of course. but I wouldn't expect much from a 28 year old who has never played anywhere but his homeland league.
