Didn't the ex board already approve of the construction? I'm pretty sure they did. Also, I'm 99% sure the plan was to have the construction completed for the home opener as well.

well they ripped out the ground in the north end, so it must be approved or certain.

I did a quick google on it and came up with ONE article that said it has been approved. I wonder why no Toronto paper cover this.

Toronto City Council has approved a nearly $2 million expansion of BMO Field that will add an extra 1,249 seats and upgrade some of the facility’s washrooms. Mayor David Miller made the announcement earlier this morning on his Twitter account.

“Executive Committee approves 1,249 new seats at BMO Field/National Soccer Stadium at sole cost of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.” - @mayormiller

The new seats will be located at the north end of the stadium, centered between the two corporate suite areas. Construction will hopefully be completed by the time Toronto FC kicks off their 2010 home schedule on April 15th against the Philadelphia Union, a rare nighttime game that will be televised by ESPN2.

The renovations will result in an increase of stadium revenues to the tune of $70,000 and will bring in an additional $18,000 through parking revenues. Of the $1.972 million put toward the project, approximately $50,000 has been set aside to do interior cosmetic upgrades to washrooms located on the south side of the Food Building.

($1,972,000 - $50,000) / 1,249 seats = $1,539 per seat.

Assume $500 per seat per year, this will be recouped in 3 years. With bonus money from parking, merchandise, concession revenue.

well im pretty sure the North stand will probably take like a month or less to build, so they will probably start in March when the weather isnt as cold.

Pretty sure it was posted before that this was going to be for group sales and walk up tickets, no seasons.

Yes the north end from my understanding will be used for single game sales, I think you will see some sort of sale offered to people on the waiting list.

It will be interesting to see how it looks with the stands and patio.

Some reports have suggested that the walkway between the Food Building and BMO will be closed for matches, allowing the beer garden to expand that way a bit.

My understanding was that that idea was against fire code...

Well that area was closed for the Real Madrid game plus the game against the Islanders.

I think the implication in the original proposal is that this will happen again -- why? Because TFC is also footing the cost to renovate washrooms in the Food Building. This must be because they are opening up that space to be the new beer garden.

That doesn't mean that the stand can't be a vocal one :scarf:.
