He's lost his starting place this year and his deal is up in June/July.

Christoph Metzelder!

LOL... There's no chance even though his contract expires at the end of the year.

I suspect with all of the grief Mo has taken for looking to the UK for talent, he's not keeping up with these opportunities with as much enthusiasm.

Leon Dean Johnson (born 10 May 1981 in London (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London)) is an English (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England) professional footballer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_football) who plays as a defender (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defender_%28association_football%29) for Wycombe Wanderers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wycombe_Wanderers_F.C.).

Wait, we want a guy who can't start in League 1 as a starting centre half for our team?

When MLS teams are compared with mid-table League 1 sides, I would say this is a definite no go. We want better players than this.

A bench league 1 player... this is exactly was TFC needs.

Ante Jazic played for Preki at Chivas-thinks he'll be perfectfor TFC-tough as nails but fair DeGuzman agrees that's what they need

more CB problems?

Chasing this now: Serioux out of contract and facing 'pretty bad' injury. Had 2 people tell me.

HE was the team's defender of the year last season, lost his place to a new signing.

Anyone who thinks league one is drastically below MLS is simply wrong. It's very similar , and I'd say closer the standard of play in most MLS games that the Coca Cola C is or the SPL. (although for a myriad of reasons, MLS tends to encompass skill level all the way from premiership to non-league footie).

Nobody said it was below MLS. We said he's a bench player. Mid-table League 1 starters are generally on par with MLS starters. But he's a bench player, meaning he's not good enough to start in League 1. Why did they get a new signing at centre half? Obviously he wasn't cutting it at the job in League 1.

Case closed.

I'm not entirely surprised about the Serioux news. I seem to recall a few articles last season about Serioux not being sure he'd be able to continue playing.

hehe - I love jezza's practical suggestions in the face of the interweb speculation frenzy! :D

Have to disagree about league one though. I'd put the overall level of MLS more at the championship level. the top CCC teams are above MLS for sure, but the bottom scrapers fall well below the average MLS standard, so from a middle perspective, I'd take CCC over league one as being more on par. Some of the MLS players would rip league one to pieces, for example.

I'm with Hitcho...MLS is equal to mid-table CCC teams...we're bringing in the Egyptian int'l and that former Portuguese int'l....either one of those guys (if fit) will be a big help...we need a LB more than anything now...

Can't you read? He was the team's defender of the year LAST SEASON. They signed a 6'7" centre they think could turn into something bigger, that's all.

You alsoou know nothing about the player, and I do, ergo that's a stupid reason to say case closed.

He'd instantly be the best defender on this team by about six county miles.

Why would he (like all young players in Europe) come to Toronto/MLS and take a pay cut?

And last year they played in League 2. Is there something wrong with you? It'd be akin to signing Marco Velez, who was the best defender in USL-1 and saying he's going to be a great defender in MLS.

STUPID BUY.

^ ok easy kids, this is all just opinion and nothing to start throwing toys out of the pram for. :D

Having said that, I was hugely impressed with Nana last season Jezza, he was solid, reliable, unruffled and dependable. Strong as an ox and good positionally. Good tackle and stays on his feet well, doesn't dive in. Good in the air. Versatile enough to play anywhere across the back four and do a good job. Good pace for a big CB. So for anyone to come in and be the best defender on the team by six country miles, would take some doing (IMHO). I don't know your suggested guy at all, but he's not a fallen international star with a history of knee injuries so probably not on Mo's radar, sorry... ;)

I think Jazic is a natural LB but he's had injury problems the last 2 years and to me I would think that would affect his mobility. Hopefully if they do get him in a trade he can prove his critics wrong.
