Lots to think about in Wheeler's article.

Says a lot when the media also remarks that Wynne's value has dropped and he's not even hinted at in the starting rotation.

It certainly does. He was well and truly been found out.

To be fair, some of us have been hinting that he's not got the defensive qualities to start since... oh a few years back anyway. ;)

I still think he's be much more adept as a winger as his best, and only real defensive capability is his speed.

Yes, and we know you were one of the first to argue the point. Have a toffee. :)

But now the rest of the league knows it too - you know you're in trouble when no one in the MLS will give you a look.

The Soccer Show was a good time chatting with good peoples. With the coming year being another year of growth for footie in Canada I suspect next years to be even bigger.

I like the idea of playing Brennan at the left mid. He's pretty much the only player that has shown he can cross decently on a fairly consistent basis. I don't think left back is his natural position anyway.

I think Nana is the CB we've been looking for, he just hasn't grown into it yet. Pairing him with a verteran is the best way to go in my opinion.

I like what Preki has done so far. Still no answers on the CB front. I get the feeling that if we sign before the season starts, it will come right down to the wire. There is a chance we could go into the season again with our backline not fully addressed.

The sunshine is nawice. Perky I think is the word... :D

Serioux at Right back? Gomez as starting centre half? Brian Edwards as our starter?

Yeah, Wheeler's really up to speed. Next thing you know, he'll be suggesting we leave DeRo on the wing.....oop, there ya go.

Delusional.

How so?

Serioux has been fairly solid at RB over the years, although his speed may have diminished, I believe he would play it much better than any other player we currently have in our roster.

Gomez as a starting centre half, not so much. We need to sign a proper CB IMO. Said/Andrade would fill that.

I'm not sold on Edwards, but if Frei is being shopped... it's the next logical choice.

I agree, he riddles that piece off of things that should be changed like a grocery list, but provides little supporting evidence on why they should be done. Why is everybody obsessed with playing our best CB out of his natural position? :picard:

I hope we are not actually stupid enough to trade Frei and start Edwards. Frei made so many difficult close range saves within the course of the season it's easy to forget how many times we were bailed out, until you see someone like Sutton or Edwards out there who look like they are moving in quick sand in comparison.

As far as I can tell Serioux has played RB for exactly one season, at Dallas, and lost the role there. So, that doesn't help his chances.

Keller on Ljumberg:

“I don’t know the full story. I’m a player, I’m not in management,” said Keller. (http://blog.thenewstribune.com/soccer/2010/01/25/keller-wants-teammates-who-want-to-be-here/) “I think when you’re under contract, you’re supposed to be for the team that holds your contract. And if something gets worked out, it has to be worked out with the club that holds your contract. You don’t as a player get your choice to say what you’re going to do and how you’re going to do it.

“I want the players on this team who want to be here. If Freddie wants to be here and wants to be fully committed, then sure. If he doesn’t, it’s more of a distraction than a benefit. That’s how I am. I’d much rather have a guy with less talent that wants to be here than a guy with great talent who doesn’t.”
