Apologies to any fans, but hardcore punk is more up its own ass than any other genre out there. I doubt anyone really cares what a band called Fucked Up thinks.

And according to wiki, one of the guys from the band is a regular on some show on Fox News... classy.

fucked up is awesome.......one of the best live shows ive seen in many many yrs, and going back for a second helping at the end of february at the opera house. dont take it so personally, part of what they do is slag others.

and I AM CANADIAN......do your research, damien abraham (aka pink eyes) IS a regular guest on fox news' late nite show red eye but if you watch the clips, damien and the band are very staunch left-wingers and he was at first mistakenly put on thinking he was pro-republican, which he is not......but he was a much better guest than any of their prior ones that they asked him back (even though he's not a republican).

man, we tfc fans are fukking sissys.......comon lads/lasses, obviously people DO care what a band called fucked up thinks if knickers are getting in severely knotted twists.

A fucking men Neil. I remember this song and I remember that the majority of the people who heard it had a laugh about it.

It's a song. It's punk. Who gives a flying fuck what they say or don't say about TFC or anyone else for that matter?

They make pretty damn good punk IMO, and most punk is aimed at making fun of, or pointing out the errors of others.

this band is as bad as Adam Braz trying to cover Jozy Altidore in a night game at BMO field in 2007.

Is there anything in the song to piss off TFC fans, or did some numpty just get pissy about the choice of song title for no good reason? Because if they did, then the band have every right to point out what a pissy, whinging thing that was to do. And I support them. If anything, I think it's kind of cool there's a song named TFC. Especially since we're still basically not on the radar of most people in the GTA.

I remember when this came out. Most (and I stress that word) people on here were amused by it and that's about it.

A very vocal few (which may have been the same vocal few on other supporter/fan boards) bitched and complained that Fucked Up were trying to get some popularity on the backs of the new Toronto team.

I also might be wrong, but I seem to recall the single coming out before any TFC games were actually played.

agreed, jay, they are of absolutely NO consequence to our team, our support, our players, any of it.

have we become this sensitive and soft to the point where everyone else has to walk on eggshells around TFC fans? i sure as hell hope not but it seems that train has already left town.

Hardcore punk is not the only punk- I hope that by 'poppy bullshit' you don't mean 'not featuring screaming.' ;)

Never heard anything by this band, but names chosen purely for shock value and/or to sound badass get a thumbs down from me.

I find you guys that are pissed off funny..........I don't care what the band said (even though it is true) I am more bothered that some once again "holier than thou" TFC supported most likely from this very group thought that group would actually give a shit about what he/she thought. Next thing you know there will be a protest against people who are not TFC supporters wearing red on gameday.....or any day for that matter

I have no idea what this thread is about. Who are these guys and which fan got uppity about the team?

And CB...why you gotta take a dig at this group once again? Was it really someone from RPB that said something about this band or are you just stirring shit up?

He played his part, and in setting up the board created a forum for what became the RPB.

WHY ARE WE DISCUSSING SOMETHING FROM 2007?

If you want something from back then, check out this link:

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/streams/

Click on the archives tab, and you can watch 4 different TFC games from 2007. You'll get an appreciation for how much MLS has improved since then.

The first bit of this post answers the second. They play awfully nice with the arts clique for a punk band. And, shocker, pick the recently trendy local football club to score PR points with.

Real rebels.

So an up and coming band chose an unfortunate name to a song. Clearly there was confusion about it and instead of listing info. about what the song is about they list what it's not about.

I'm not getting up in arms either way. Haven't heard the band and may like them yet. This wouldn't be the first band that wanted to distance themselves from anything to do with sports. Musicians aren't always sports fans.

Parkdale
01-25-2010, 09:10 AM
it's the same old thing...

the track comes out and someone on the internet whines about it (which happens all the time) then someone else takes the grumblings of a few internet whiners and thinks it represents all fans.

Hey guy who wrote the blurb -- your generalizations about us are as misguided as our generalizations about you.

But the fact that you responded to a few internet whiners just shows how much you care.

and for the record, I like the band. So much that I used one of their tracks for the 2008 RPB year in review DVD.

another example of why bands should really try not to interact on the internet.

i remember a thread on this and i beleive it was a major outcry on this very board about how could a group steal our stuff or name or something
methinks we should ask almo if he remembers

HAHA I'm not a big fan of the band but you have to admit that is hilarious!

Hitcho
01-25-2010, 12:20 PM
I think it's funny. Football fans steal tunes all the time and make their own lyrics for their own purposes. When did you last hear the white stripes winging about us (and every other set of football fans in the world) using seven nation army at games?

frankly, even if they'd written a song about how badly TFC sucked for its first couple of years in the league (results wise) I think that would be funny too.

They'd have to start writing material that was offensive to the club, players or fans before I would give a shit. and even then, how well known are these guys and how many people are actually going to hear it? not worth the effort of getting aggro about in my book.

Come on kids, roll with the punches a bit. Or in this case, the gentle tickle under the chin.

Hitcho

I was wondering about that. But we could slow it down and alter the words a bit. Ah, it was just a joke Parky.

I still think it's good that they named a song Toronto FC.

By the way, has anyoen ehard the track and if so what is it about if not sports?

I remember the thread.
I was one of the people who 'assumed' that the band was capitalising on the local success of the team.

It was pointed out immediately, that I really hadnt done my research. and i apologised on the same page, pointing out that I use this forum for casual conversation, and wasnt really thinking too hard when I posted. It was a good apology and it satisfied those in the thread who were offended by my presumption.

If the writer of that snippet is referring to me, despite my apology he can go fuck himself, its a stupid name for a song that has nothing to do with anything, anyway.
