House of pain
TFC pounds Rapids; remains unbeaten at home
By LORI EWING, THE CANADIAN PRESS

Rohan Ricketts' first goal was a huge relief. His second goal was pure shock.
Ricketts scored a pair of goals, including his first ever in Major League Soccer, and Danny Dichio added one as Toronto defeated the Colorado Rapids 3-1 last night, stretching its unbeaten streak at BMO Field to seven games.
"I just felt free, like 'I can't believe I scored,' " Ricketts said afterward. "Especially the second one. I scored two goals in one game, I've never done that."

Ricketts leads Toronto FC to win

PETER MALLETT
Globe and Mail

TORONTO — Growing up in the streets of south London, Toronto FC midfielder Rohan Ricketts modelled his game after Barcelona legend Ronaldinho but in Saturday's 3-1 win over Colorado his first two MLS career goals would have even made the Brazilian superstar envious.
"Ronaldinho, he's the man - he was my only hero while I grew up playing street soccer," said Ricketts after the victory.
Ricketts was named man of the match for Toronto FC which improved their record to 6-4-2 and remained undefeated at BMO Field this season.

Toronto FC faces surging Rapids
PETER MALLETT
Globe and Mail

TORONTO — A weakened Toronto FC defensive core will try to take the fizz out of the surging Colorado Rapids and their pint-sized Scottish target man Tom McManus in tonight's Major League Soccer game at BMO Field.
The 5-foot-9 McManus is tied for the Rapids' goal-scoring lead with three in eight games.
"The MLS is very good but it's much different than playing in Scotland," said McManus, 27. "In Scotland, the pace of the game is much faster, but over here it is more of an on-the-ground control game with short passes, but that suits my style of play just fine."

Rohan Ricketts used to lose sleep over not scoring.
Even Friday night, the South London native lay awake and wondered why a soccer career that has spanned seven seasons, six teams and two continents has included only two goals – one when he played for Tottenham Hotspur and another for Wolverhampton.

Canada gearing up for Cup run
Mitchell & Co. facing St. Vincent & Grenadines in qualifier

The Canadian Press
Despite being seen as rank outsiders in today's World Cup qualifier against Canada, head coach Stewart John-Hall is unfazed about the challenges facing his St. Vincent & the Grenadines team.
John-Hall says he respects the Canucks as favourites, but believes his team of amateurs can create a major upset – as long as they focus on themselves.
"I think when you try to impose your opponents on the players' mind, especially in cases when that opponent is seen as the superior unit, it tends to have a negative effect on the players' state of mind and they are beaten before they even enter the field," he said.

TORONTO - Danny Dichio led by example on Saturday night; and the rest of his teammates took notice.
The striker's first-half goal helped Toronto FC to a 3-1 win over the visiting Colorado Rapids and kept John Carver's team unbeaten at BMO Field through seven home games.
"When you have a moment of inspiration like that (Dichio's goal) it will inspire you, it inspired me," Carver said during the post-game conference. "It was a fantastic finish, and from where we were standing we saw it going intot he net, it was a bit of class."

Canada in for a fight
By THE CANADIAN PRESS
KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent -- Despite being seen as ranked outsiders in their CONCACAF 2010 pre-World Cup qualifier against Canada, head coach Stewart John-Hall is unfazed about challenges facing his St. Vincent & the Grenadines team.
John-Hall, an Englishman who took up duties as technical director a mere four months ago for the Vincy Heat, replaces Serbian Zoran Vranes who was in charge of the country's soccer program from 2004 until October 2007.
John-Hall says he respects the Canucks as favourites, but believes his team of amateurs can create a major upset.
"I think when you try to impose your opponents on the players' mind, especially in cases when that opponent is seen as the superior unit, it tends to have a negative effect on the players' state of mind and they are beaten before they even enter the field," he said.

Ricketts' career day fuels TFC rout

Midfielder ecstatic after registering double in 3-1 victory

TORONTO -- When one has only scored three professional goals in an eight-year pro career, it is no exaggeration to say that scoring a brace is a career day. For Rohan Ricketts, his two goals on Saturday night didn't just solidify Toronto FC's 3-1 win against the Colorado Rapids, but represented a personal milestone. "Oh man, best day of my life so far," Ricketts said. "I never saw it coming and I've been dying to score. I've been close a few times but fortunately today it went in."

Eddson Buddle got another hat trick....wtf!

He's been doing chores at the Beckham mansion. You know, mowing the lawn, emptying the dishwasher, looking after the kids.

David has noticed and is returning some favours.

They're the official paper of the team and don't even have a soccer section on their website. Complain by letters to the editor and you might get somewhere.

Ricketts added that after his first few games in the MLS he had hit the wall with his conditioning and was scared he was going to be dropped from the roster.
"The coach [Carver] picked me up though and told me he believed in me and gave me the confidence to continue — it paid off tonight," said Rickets.

Don't you just love how Carver manages his players? He knows when to be tough and call a player out, and he knows when to encourage and inspire a player who is discouraged. I'm glad he's our club's coach.
