Good or bad for MLS?

“I heard of Livorno’s interest for Ljungberg and other Italian clubs, some important, have asked about the player,” agent Claes Elefalk told Calciomercato.it.

“Beckham’s excellent performances for Milan mean many sides want to repeat the experiment with Freddie.

“He has another year of his contract with the Seattle Sounders, so this would be purely a loan deal and there are offers on the table from some top clubs.

“I cannot name names, but you can imagine who would be interested in a player with Ljungberg’s CV, who played an entire season without injuries and became the most popular player in MLS.”

I cannot see how it is bad for the MLS. If they establish good relationship we eventualy will be able to get player on loan here, younger guys who need playing time. Or at least that is what I hope to see.

Only if his loan does not interfere with the MLS season. We are losing a lot of big names we need to stick around to make the league popular.

^See I have the alternate take on that. In that we need more overall tallent through out the rosters, to increase the overall level of play. Doing that with our sallary cap is very difficult. I am hoping that developing players on loans to MLS teams, will help. There has been no idication of this accutaly happening, but it is something I hope to see.

But even as to what you are saying Lujnburg playing in Italy increases the visablity of the league in Europe and increases the chance of better players comming over.

Most popular player in MLS?!

Fuck off!

You know the pre-season must be close when the most sensible statement in a thread is Fuck off.

Apparently he turned down the offer from Livorno but is still unsure about this spring due to the possible work stoppage in MLS. He also said that a couple of "big" clubs are interested in him. We shall see.

MLS: Freddie Ljungberg, Sebastian Le Toux, Seattle Sounders FC, April 2009 (ISI)

Seattle Sounders midfielder Fredrik Ljungberg has rejected the advances of Serie A minnows Livorno as his agent claims he is wanted by major Italian clubs.

It's no secret the Amaranto want the former Arsenal star as he is seen as a replacement for Antonio Candreva, who recently joined Juventus.

However, Sky Sport Italia claims Ljungberg has made it clear he wants to play for a bigger side, thus rejecting Livorno's interest.

The player's agent Claes Elefalk claims a number of Italian clubs have manifested an interest, but he was unprepared to shed more light on the suitors.

"I heard about Livorno's interest in Ljungberg, but there are also many Italian clubs who have made surveys for the player," the agent told Calciomercato.it.

"[David] Beckham's excellent return with Milan has led to clubs thinking the same will happen with Ljungberg. But we must remember he still has one year left on his deal with the Seattle Sounders."

The agent was keen to point out his client's prowess, but was unwilling to put a name to a club.

"I cannot name the clubs, but you can imagine the type of team that would be interested in a player like Ljungberg," added the agent.

"He has played a whole season without injuries and he was in great form, becoming the most popular player in the MLS."

doesn't leave a complete clear answer though.
