Hey guys I was looking for a game photo of Amado in the pink jersey from the new york game. I won the jersey in the auction and I am now trying to find a photo of him in it to go with it for a display.

So who do I get in touch with?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Ok so great find thank you. I signed up for an account but now when I go to get the image I want it says it is going to be $765. So how do I get that cheaper?

Contact the photographer and tell him what you need the print for.
Those prices are for publication purposes. A private display might get some sympathy from him.

I worked with some settings and now I can get in for $161. Anyone know the right settings for the cheapest picture? I just need an 8x10 print.

If this is for you. By that I mean you aren't going to sell the jersey and image to try to make money. I would just steal the image. Get it printed and hang it up.

Be careful with that. Not that I am trying to preach to the masses here, but as a photographer, nothing grinds our gears more then work is 'stolen'. Do the right thing, and drop a line and inquire. I have never once denied someone who's gone ahead and asked me for work, in many cases donating prints to various causes just to get my name out there.

For the record, Flickr has a variety of 'licenses' that artists apply to thier work. Generally private use falls outside the clause of copyrights and provided you aren't going to manipulate, distribute, sell or otherwise benefit from said image you are likely ok. I've got some in the recent RPB newsletter that came from flickr on free user licenses.

Its for private use, its not stealing any more than taking a photograph from a newspaper and sticking it in your scrapbook.

Although I would add, you're not getting that printed out without the watermark at 300dpi/8x10 from Getty Images without paying the asking price.

The flickr images are too low res for your needs.

..... Which pretty much is exactly what my response says...

As for the newspaper mention, if we want to get all legal, Yes - that is fine because it's free domain. Something from Flickr on the other hand, may not. The two, are very different animals all together.

Anything at 1024 x 768 and larger is more then sufficient for a 4x6 to 5x7 print. Looking at the example, several exceed that entirely. You need to be a registered user on Flickr to see the majority of higher resolution images. I have 11 x 14 prints of personal work that were taken from 800x600 exposures. You can correct the majority of this in photoshop if you need to enlarge an image.

OP : Here's a two more for you via an RPB member, Ageroo, via Flickr

A proper crop would leave just Amado and the ball, and be large enough for your needs (Using the 4000 pixel proof). If you have some questions, ask away.

He's looking for 8x10 which is considerably larger than 5x7

an 800x600 bitmapped image will not print out at 11x14 300dpi without major quality loss, you cant tell me otherwise. Enlarging images in photoshop creates jagged pixels that didnt exist before, and even with CS4's 'guessing' its just not professional to do it that way.

Im not calling you a liar or unprofessional, Im just stating that 800x600 does not translate to 11x14 at 300dpi in any professional scope.

Come take a shite in my bathroom sometime, admire and then let me know :) It takes practice, and a load of work, but it can be done. The trick is in your DPI and what you as a user want to take it to, while compensating and enlarging piece by piece.

It's a moot point anyways, since the majority of users now shoot in a much higher resolution and use a quality imaging device to take it.

... and CS4 is crap :) CS3 is about where it should be, and remain.

CS3 is only where you need it to be, if you dont dabble in 3D, or integrate much with other adobe products. As far as Flash and Illustrator go, CS4 is a major improvement. I've been using Adobe products since 1998, and I dont have any frustrations with the change from CS3 to CS4 other than not being able to contract a selection after selecting the background.
I'm surprised you'd say that CS3 is superior, especially if you're stretching your photographs, which CS4 does 100% better.

I trust your work looks great, but youre the only professional photographer I've ever heard of that would actually bother trying to stretch what is essentially a 2.66" x 2" image to a 11"x14" print.
By my estimation thats about 80% degradation you need to reconstruct.
I also dont know why your original exposure is so small to begin with, am I missing something?

By no means, am I professional... not even remotely close. I do it for giggles and the odd buck here and there.

I don't have any reason to go outside of CS3 to be perfectly honest, Infact I didn't want to move from CS2. CS4 has lots of neat toys, but chews my PC and lags far too much for my liking.

As for why so small, it's all I had to work with so I spent some time and did it... Just for giggles, the exact resolution I was working with initially was 1054 x 860 (went and checked).. A crop job gone bad... So I worked with what I had, wife's orders!

I've played around with a few of Ageroo's images, and have a suitable 8x10 that the OP would likely find suitable.
