View Full Version : Need Input - TFC's Biggest Needs/Wants

James Oliphant
12-04-2009, 12:57 AM
We're a little over a week from launching the third-annual GoTFC Twelve Days of Christmas feature over on gotorontofc.com (http://gotorontofc.com), where we try to identify TFC's biggest needs and the supporters' biggest wants.

This year, instead of being insular and secretive about the gifts we're giving, we're opening the floor to TFC supporters.

What we're looking for is a wish list - the three things you'd like to see TFC do (on or off the field) in the coming year. Give us a quick bit of reasoning as well...if we use your "wish" we'll try to use your comments in the articles.

To give you an idea of what we're looking for, here's what was under the tree last year...

Dwayne De Rosario playing for TFC (he was unveiled THE DAY BEFORE we ran the piece, forcing a re-write we were only too happy to do)
Toronto FC games broadcast on the radio
A TFC home game to start the season
A Nutrilite Canadian Championship
A reason to be proud of the Canadian Men’s National Team
Soccer featuring prominently in the hearts and minds of North Americans
A 15-goal scorer (second year running)
A summer full of wins
Notable international teams to play TFC in friendlies
Significant changes to Major League Soccer's salary structure
A designated player
A MLS Cup playoff game at BMO Field
We'll be taking submissions in this thread and on the other boards until next Friday, December 11th. The series begins December 13th, 2009.

Cheers!

My three...
1. A playoff spot
2. A North stand of some sort
3. A roof or two!

Playoffs
A good defender
A good striker (unless Barrett can be used well)
Get rid of Garcia

* Better officiating, including a better system for developing and monitoring performance.
* Sorry - not going to "accept" a playoff spot - I want a spot in the MLS Cup.
* One good defender added to the roster.
* A good CBA that will carry on for a few years, allowing the salary cap to move as it has to.
* An expanded roster (at least 28) and the cap room to make it a viable roster.
* A move into later rounds of the Champions League.
* A second straight Voyageurs Cup.
* More hardware - the Carolina Cup, even the Carlsberg Cup.
* A first round draft choice in exchange for something on our roster (not Frei or Cronin)
* Several weeks of consistent effort, both at home and on the road.
* Road wins!
* More drums!
* Once, just once, I'd like to see the whole stadium involved in a chant!
* A 20 goal scorer
* A full 90 minutes every game!

1. A scary (not in a bad way like last year) dominating defense
2. A striker we can rely on game in and game out
3. Consistentency

1. ARGOS OUT

2. ARGOS OUT

3. ARGOS OUT

At this point, I really don't care about anything else. I'd take last in the Eastern Conference and JDG back to Europe if it kept the Argos out of BMO Field. If they come in, the long term future of this club is down the toilet. Fans will leave in droves, the pitch will be a mess to play on and will look like shit with all the markings so players will be turned off, fixture list headaches will be huge, the list goes on.

All I want for Xmas for TFC this year, is to keep BMO Field a SSS.

It's quickly becoming one of the more popular suggestions on the U-Sector boards: Goalkeepers jerseys for sale! Anyone on this site looking for those too?

Night games seem to be a big want there too...especially on weekends and in the warmer months of the year. We've had those on the list the last couple years, but no one seems to be listening. Is that something you guys would like to see?

Finally, I'm kinda shocked to see no one has listed something like "finally beating Columbus" over here...I would have thought that'd be pretty high on everyone's list, right?

Also, more night games and fewer mid-week games would help as well.

My quick list off the top of my head...
+ Argos Stay Out... (easy number-1)
+ Playoff spot
+ Playoff run
+ Striker (successful, proven striker who 'strikes fear' in the opposition)
+ Cheaper Beer (will never happen but I can dream)
+ Thiery Henry to play in the MLS so I get a chance to rip into him in person when he plays at BMO. Oh, and I'll buy a beer to that guy who hit the PR Islanders keeper in the head from like 16 rows up LOL - guess why??? :)

I'd like to see:
1) a commanding centre back.
2) A creative midfielder who shows up on a consistent basis and can take free kicks.
3) A "Fox in the box" type of striker.

I'd also like to see $5 rain ponchos, like they use on the Maid of the Mist, but in red.

Petor
12-14-2009, 04:33 AM
^^^ You can get Red Rain ponchos at some dollar stores, I think they are less than $5, I picked up a pair this year for our wet early season matches. :)

The only thing TFC really needs is me as a season ticket holder! :)
C'mon you Reds(listers)!

As you may have seen on the front page of GoTFC, I'm having difficulty once again with the site's news system. I'm working hard to get the bugs out with a view to having both Day 2 and Day 3's "gifts" up tomorrow.

20 goal scorer
No Mo Medling

Gixmo
12-14-2009, 10:21 PM
MoJo clearly defining his role and operating within it
Goals, like it rains
A solid backline capable of tough, physical play
Someone whom can find the back of the net after a night downtown with little sleep
More Flags, More Drums, More Noise
Feck off Argos...
Scalpers, and how to poison their drink!
Repeat Nutrilite Championships
A Shotgun start, starting in Charleston
Goalkeeper kits are cool, I've got 2, but I'd certainly rock more! Certainly hard to get your hands on.
I would love to see an entirely different third Jersey, that doesn't fit the 'norm'... and scrap the Onyx

Dear Santoliphant

1) I would like the beer garden to be replaced with a giant inflatable castle.

2) I would like a lawnmower that looks like a zamboni to drive around the pitch at half time.

3) I would like a new supporters gate, with some kind of symbol or coat of arms on it.

4) I would like Danny Dichio to come out of retirement.

5) I would like Paul Bierne to make every SSH a recommended contact on LinkedIn.

6) I would like the contract to develop TFC's webpage, and free reign to make it look exactly like it does now.

7) I would like Chad Barrett to get some books on geometry, angles and velocity.

8) I would like a monstrous mutant dragonfly to sit on a podium near Bitchy and scare off the mosquitos.

9) I would like a chick with a russian accent to take over the loudspeaker announcements.

10) I would like secure beercup holders either beneath, between, or affixed to the back of seats.

11) I would like the roaming beer vendors back, and for LLJJ to be reinstated as Chief Beer vendor, getting a $6600 per hour wage.

12) I would like also for Liverpool to stop sucking this season, although I realise that your elves are going to be too busy to help with this one.

I will leave you a mince pie and a glass of sherry as always, but I recommend against drinking and operating a flying vessel.

Yours sincerely,

Ian.

A playoff spot,
Team actually holds on to leads in the last 10 minutes,
A speedy winger
No Garcia,
A decent CB,

To be the only winning team inn Toronto, just to piss off all these Blue Jay fans I know.
More Canadian talent on the the Roster.
Also an improved Barrett.

Can't agree more.

I think what I am looking for is peace of mind. I'm SO wanting Seasons Tickets, but I'd live with partial packs for a while if I was given the guarantee that Toronto FC would have a Soccer Specific BMO Field for the duration of the fields lifetime (when, of course, we must demand a larger and more robust stadium, with enough parking for our flying cars (a guy can dream)).

Also, I'd like some peace of mind that this labour strike is going to fizzle out and everyone will play nice. Nothing the team can do about that, I'm just saying.

Black with red trim. Simple, clean, no silly Adidas patterns. Or, as suggested by Torcida, Onyx. I know he mentioned that as an away jersey, but it'd make a solid third strip as well.

15 goal striker... rarely going to get that, and never one who is going to be aroud 15 goals year after year, even with DP money. those guys tend to stay in Europe

I'd be happy with a 12 goal striker. That, plus DeRo's 10 and whatever OW/Gerba chips in, hopefully will be enough
