Chicago's linking up much better than RSL when it comes to the final third, but just doesn't have the finishing touch.

I can see this going to PKs tonight.

I wanted Chicago to go to the final just for the fact that in their two home playoff games their fans showed up, last week versus New England Chicago sold out their stadium and this week versus Real Salt Lake once again their stadium was sold out, on the other hand you have Real Salt Lake playing a playoff game at home on a Saturday a few weeks back at their brand new soccer specific stadium and only about 11,000 people bother to show up in a 20,000 seat capacity stadium, these cities do not deserve their team being in a final!

Would've been better for the league if Chicago made the final. Having the third biggest media market and the single biggest hispanic draw (Blanco) would've given a boost to ratings and attendance.

Better for the league, yes. But not better for us. I don't need them to flaunt the trophy in our faces. I've had my fill of that from Columbus fans this year.

Anyone else think it's pretty funny that Real Salt Lake won the Eastern Conference final, and even got a cup for that? Hmm, let me check my map of North America....

I know it's because of the crossover qualification for the playoffs this year, but it's still pretty strange. Next year should be different I guess because of the balanced schedule, or will they still have wild cards & cross over qualifiers?

should be...but lets see. Last year New York won the western conference....go figure...

Have conferences ever meant anything? Perhaps in an earlier time, but today I fail to see their importance. Upsets are nice, but there ought to be something to reward table toppers. This is why I would prefer a system like the one they use in the AFL and NRL in Australia:

- The top eight are split 1-4 (top four) and 5-8 (lower four).
- Round 1 (double legged): winners of the top four matches get a bye to round 3, losers go to round 2; winners of the lower four go to round 2, losers are eliminated.
- Round 2 (single legged): winners of the lower four matches meet losers of top 4 matches. Better H2H record then season record determines who gets home field. Winner moves on, losers eliminated.
- Round 3 (single legged, same week): Round 1 top 4 winners pair off with the winners from round 2. Round 1 top 4 winners get home field.
- Round 4: final match between the semi-final winners.

So hypothetically, we could be looking at:

Round 1
1 Columbus v 4 Seattle
2 Los Angeles v 3 Houston
5 Chicago v 8 RSL
6 Chivas v 7 New England

Round 2
6 Chivas @ 1 Columbus
5 Chicago @ 2 Los Angeles

Round 3
2 Los Angeles @ 4 Seattle
6 Chivas @ 3 Houston

FINAL
Seattle vs. Houston

I choose to cut the MLS a bit of slack. It's improving year by year, and sure, there are things that still make me laugh, and I certainly bring out Mickey Mouse more than once in a while, but as long as I can honestly say that the league is better year by year then I'm quite happy with the state of things.

I was told by someone this morning that they went to this game and they were blown away by the fans. This person has attended many TFC home games and she said that this game was by far a noisier atmosphere than anything she saw at BMO.

we'll have something as a reference to do any meaningful comparison (why compare anyway) when we host a playoff game in BMO...
