Carving up the national team...again

It's Tuesday, which means John Carver's unhappy with the national team.
Any national team.
Just about every national team.
Last week Carver was miffed that Canada's head coach, Dale Mitchell, hadn't called him to discuss how the two teams would share players, even after TFC training staff helped treat national team standout Julian de Guzman.
This morning Carver complained that the U.S. national team keeps grabbing Maurice Edu for games in which they don't really need him.
Edu, the 2007 Rookie of the Year, will miss yet another MLS game this weekend because of U.S. World Cup qualifying.
Carver says there's nothing wrong with that.
He's more upset that this past Sunday Edu dressed for a U.S. squad that featured only six MLS players, playing about half an hour in an exhibition against Argentina (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=544372&root=us&cc=5901), but missing Toronto's game in Houston.
Carver points out that Houston stars Brian Ching and Ricardo Clark have played for the national team in the past but weren't called up for Sunday's game, so they played against TFC. He thinks the U.S. national team should have done TFC the same favour with Edu.
But since they didn't, Carver came up with a new rule.
No national team games for anyone except for FIFA match dates.
Period.:hurray:

good going Carver.

Hopefully the MLS eventually respects the FIFA dates so that MLS teams aren't fielding inferior product.

Are there any friendlies left?
I think all the rest of the International absences will be on FIFA days anyways.

Why doesn't MLS simply moves the dates ahead by 1 (game days) and then keep FIFA dates free.
What's so hard about that!?

Also I'm not completely pleased w/ Carver. One of the big complaints is that the CMNT hardly get a chance to practice together, well this isn't helping. I think compromise is key here, somehow...

Carver's Law.

Law #1 - Not important? Not going.
Law #2 - Don't like it? Too bad.

Then the CSA should get a clue.

Why should we pick up the slack?

I thought Carver or Mo isn't required to release players on non-FIFA dates. At least now he is giving everyone warning. I think as far as we are concerned, Brennan or Sutton would be the only ones effected for the national team, any other player (unless we acquire someone) would probably be released (thinking more of the younger guys that don't play for TFC).

Exactly.

Until that happens what should the league expect? I think they are just starting to get used to the fact that teams are taking things much more seriously now and expectations are high.

Asides from that, there are just too many scheduling conflicts.

And the league is getting better every season. Every time there is a salary cap increase, it opens up a bit more cash to bring in higher quality players. Perhaps not Europeans, but other countries from Concacaf where the quality players are on their NT's and are a bit cheaper.

Just a brief look, are there any other teams in the MLS that are as hard hit as TFC? The Galaxy are a close second with Donovan Becks and Ruiz as they are total shit without them. From what I gather DC doesn't have any NT call ups! How is that fair?

Carver's statement is really a non-statement anyway because June is the only time players will play internationals on non-FIFA dates. The only exception is the Olympics. Going to be really interesting to see if Carver wants to play hardball with the USSF

In the case of Edu, it almost seems deliberate.

for me it's allways tfc 1st and national team 2nd canada national team is never going to get to the world cup the way that CSA is running things and no I do not want the world cup to but play in canada then fifa would give us a spot just for being the host CSA needs to fight for a spot just like all the there national team.Fifa needs to stop giveing the host a spot in the world cup or euro just for being the host.
