This is what BMO will look like if MLSE does not start putting a good team on the field. I can remember when 38,000 fans were in New England for a playoff game in the early years of MLS. When New England was in the final and hosted the MLS Cup Final they had over 60,000 at Gilette Stadium in New England for the New England/LA Galaxy final. Look at it today your lucky if there is 2000 people there.

New England made the playoffs in their second season.
New England made the playoffs in their fifth season.
New England has made the playoffs in the past 8 seasons.

Summary: New England has made the playoffs in 10 of 14 years.

They have never ever had three years without the playoffs, as we have had.

No excuses regarding the composition of the team for New England fans not to show up.

If fans don't come out with THAT kind of success, then it has nothing to do with the on the field product. I think it's cuz their stadium is in the middle of nowhere and it seats 68,000.

If TFC had a 68,000 stadium in Newmarket (which is where Gillette is compared to Boston), it wouldnt matter how successful the team was.

Do you think Toronto fans would keep turning out if the team went 0-4 in the Cup games? New England is on a slide now, fewer points in each of the last three years.

But you're right, the stadium has a lot to do with it. NY will prove that next year.

away goals do not apply in MLS playoffs...if its tied after after the 2nd leg , extra time and penalites come into effect.

so what your saying is BMO is currently full of glory hunters that will leave if no chmapionship happens quickly? Nice? let the glory hunters f**king leave and the real supporters can get in.

We'll see. Patriots fans filled that stadium (well, the old one in Foxborough) for years when their team was terrible. If Revs fans were given a proper stadium I think it would make a huge difference.

by the way, the Revolution never got 38000 for a playoff game in the early days of MLS.

In 1997 they played 1 playoff game at Gillette and had 16000 attendance for that match.

In 2000 they played 1 playoff game at Gillette and had 10000 attendance for that match.

They got 61000 for the MLS Cup final in 2002 (they were in the MLS Cup final), but didn't exceed 11000 for the early round playoff games that lead up to the final.

So today's attendance seems pretty normal for a first round Revolution playoff game in their history.

I don't want to speculate. I think if TFC made the playoffs for 8 straight seasons, including winning the season, and making the final 4 straight years, BMO field would be packed to the rafters. That's great success.

I was simply pointing out that there's NO CONNECTION between failure or success in the New England Revolution's history and their attendance.

This is the New England Revs attendance during the season, and then playoffs (second number).

1996: 19,025
1997: 21,423/16,233
1998: 19,188
1999: 16,735
2000: 15,463/10,723
2001: 15,645
2002: 16,927/19,018
2003: 14,641/14,823
2004: 12,226/5,679
2005: 12,525/13,849
2006: 11,786/9,372
2007: 16,787/10,217
2008: 17,580/5,221

I don't see any trend there.

The interesting thing is, whether they were good, or bad, their regular season attendance fluctuated between 11,000 and 21,000. And that's at a massive empty stadium in our equivalent of Newmarket.
So if I did speculate, I would say that TFC would never ever drop below 11,000, if the Revs are any indication. BMO Field was designed to operate at about 13,000 without losing money. So TFC would be fine I think, given the great location and massive soccer interest in the GTA.

If we're goin to be optimistic we could say there was initially a lot of interest that faded but now that the league is improving overall so is the attendance.

Chances are NE will be one of the last teams to still be playing in an innapropriate stadium but once the rest of the league have moved out of the old baseball stadiums and so on, the Revs may get their own, too.

The location is important, but it doesn;t stop Patriots fans.
