Momentum is building to allow coaches in most NCAA sports to recruit some athletes from professional teams, according to the head of an NCAA committee that has proposed the major rule change.

This would be massive for the league, allowing academy players to play with professionals in either (if revived) the reserve league, or either match games. Example an academy GK couldve been on the subs for the games agaisnt SJ, and RSL.

Also this would make teams capable of signing academy players, and they could still play with the academy. Without other players loosing there eligiblity.

This could be a real boon to a lot of "non-revenue" Division I sports, like soccer, . This is a surprising move by the NCAA.

This could also be a boon to USL PDL, which will be able to recruit (low-salary) pro players to be on the same teams as college players. Right now they have some teams that are semi-pro but IIRC can't mix them on the same team due to the current NCAA rules. This rule change should allow all PDL teams to go to a semi-pro/college amateur mix.

The first thing NCAA soccer needs to do is adopt proper rules. No more ten second countdown to end the game and no more unlimited subs.

no the first thing is to let players that play with pro's in. We can worry about the silly stuff later.

Unlimited subs is not a bad thing at the NCAA level. The point is not to have competitions, the point is to develop the athelete. It is better to give more people more playing time so that they all get a chance to play.

It should be noted that in friendlies, if both sides agree, FIFA allows for unlimited substitutions. An example we've all seen is in the friendly cup hosted by the Charleston Battery every year.

whats the 10 second count down

unlimited subs is fine, you give college players playing experience so they can take their games to next level

Instead of counting up to 90mins, NCAA's clock counts down and when it hits zero, the match is over. During the last 10 seconds, the stadium announcer does a countdown. It's really lame.

In France, the clock counts down. Counting up is not a FIFA requirement. Agreed that the announcer countdown is lame.

there is no time added on either. Once the clock hits zero a buzzer sounds just like in hockey or basketball.

yea pretty stupid, you can be on a breakway, and the buzzer goes, game done!
