There are tons of Hawks downtown. A few hang out on top of scotia. There is a nest somewhere up there. Maybe one of them?

Hawks in Toronto/southern Ontario are completely normal.

I believe Bitchy is a captive hawk who is brought in for games (i.e. she doesn't actually live at BMO field - which is good because she would undoubtedly complain about the high concession prices, if she did.). It is common for raptors to be used as part of an urban pest control strategy. In other words, she's a working bird.

I think it's great, what might they be feeding on though?! My concern would be garbage?

The mystery continues.....

Hawks typically eat rodents, small birds and pigeons.

I was wondering myself which raptor people were actually talking about. Falcons are quite common in Southern Ontario. When I was living in London I'd sit at the outside patio at the Scot's Corner and watch Peregrine Falcons nesting at the TD building fly over the downtown core.

FYI, Walmart in Newmarket is selling plastic, life size hawks standing on a fencepost for about $20. I thought that by putting one up in the yard between my RPB and TFC flags would be appropriate!

Bitchy is a Harris Hawk.

Which is definitely a Hawk and not a Falcon, hence the term, 'Harris Hawk'

Where'd this fallacy about her being a mere falcon arise?

This majestic creature was rescued today by Toronto Humane Society (THS) wildlife staff. A concerned citizen called in after seeing the hawk stumbling around on King St. in downtown Toronto.

The hawk seemed very disoriented and was not able to fly. He was jumping on top of cars, and hanging from branches, he seemed very incoherent.

After gently placing a towel over his head, THS wildlife staff brought him back to our wildlife sanctuary, where he was given a full checkup. After completing blood work and X-Rays, this gorgeous creature was given a clean bill of health. THS wildlife staff believe that he likely had flown into a window downtown and hit his head giving him a mild concussion, hence his disorientation.

After making a speedy recovery THS wildlife staff have now released this incredible bird back to the wild so he can return to the skies where he belongs! The hawk was released on the Leslie Street Spit, a perfect natural habitat for this beautiful creature.

Maybe they could put those on the railing at the top of the east side of BMO. I thought this thread was going to be about how there are more seagulls at the games lately. :frown:
