LOL - Beckham's base salary is $5.5m and EIGHT CENTS. His guaranteed salary of $6.5m only has a guaranteed FOUR CENTS tacked onto it though.

"Yes Mr beckham would like a guaranteed six point five million dollars, and also four cents please - one cent for each of his sons and one for Posh. That's a deal breaker for my client, he must have those extra funds guaranteed in hsi contract."

My vote for best value is Freddy Montero at $155,000. Chad Barret is making 50k more than that.

MLS has not stated what the actual salary cap for this year was. but it is somewhere between 2.4-2.9 million. Plus there is allocation money that some teams have more than others.

JDG is only $200k because we signed him half way through the season.

Really?

He has major attitude problems and barely gets off the bench at DCU, and he's even been a healthy scratch a few times.

If he gets his head right, then yes it's a big steal. Until that time, he's the one stealing money.

based on salaries and play, these guys have not earned their dough this year:
Barrett 200K
Brennan 165K
Nick Garcia 190K
Ali Gerba 145K
Robinson 300k
Vitti 288K
Total 1.28 million

there's a problem there

I guess I am the only Gerba non fan, but I truly do not believe he is the right guy for us at striker. Not mobile enough and will never create anything out of nothing. Everything must be hand delivered for him. One of my criteria to play as a striker is that he can create his own chances, and I don't think he can.

are the newcomers' salaries prorated? Cuz I remember when Samuel joined TFC he was making I believe 60K less than Gerba, but next season it went way up. His first season was actually half what he was contracted to make over the whole season.

So Gerba may be signed to a 300K+ contract for a full season, and that's the prorated amount for 2009 only.

ArmenJBX

Gerba is always on his ass. I've never seen such a big guy flop around so much. But that's not the point.

I think Vitti at his salary is just fine. I pray we sign him for next season. Vitti is the kind of player that won't make an immediate effect, but over some seasons, he can become an MLS all star. I think that if we give him up, once again, he'll sign for someone like Kansas City or something, and he'll get like 30 goals a year. Vitti just needs to have a preseason in him, and more time to blend with the team. So does everyone. That's why we have to keep this core of 18 players together.

I dunno...just a thought.

Jimmybaldx is the only sensible think about Vitti.

Vitti, I agree is not worth (this year) the 288k/303k, whichever way you look at it, but, at the same time he is not someone you toss away at a salad bar just cuz of 1 lousy season. Vitti is known to succeed more on grass then on turf and I can see him building on this season to next year. Finally, look at Conor Casey. How long did it take him to put the ball behind the net? His first year back he wasn't do it at all. His second year back, same issue (til the near end of the season), but this season...he is a league star. It took him til his 3rd year to get his game adjusted to the MLS standard and having high turnover with our skilled stars will only keep losing seasons going.

I cannot wait to see what Vitti can do on grass next season and how he develops into a prolific scorer in year 3...if he's given the chance! (Once his english improves, I bet his game develops a lot more quicker)

If Montero gets 155,000........Barrett has to be at least under 100,000 and Nana needs a huge raise and contract forever

Also let's not forget that this league is hard to adjust for Argentine players (a lot more running; more physical league). Style of play especially British style that TFC plays or at least try to play is something Vitti is not used to playing at all. Of course living in North America is a huge cultural adjustment for players like Vitti.

I'm ok with giving Vitti more time here but his salary needs to drastically be reduced! It's funny how people are complaining about Gerba when Vitti makes twice as much. Gerba is one of our best strikers period. He is a clinical finisher and that is what this team needs so let's not judge him after a couple of games if we're not going to judge Vitti after a season.

No. Vitti's contract is up at the end of the season. If TFC want to keep him, they'll have to sign him to a new contract. The big question is how much of a cut Vitti is willing to accept.

If he won't accept a cut, he'll probably head home to Argentina.

The best two values on the entire list are Geoff Cameron at Houston for $34,000 (he's so undervalued and could easily move to a top Euro league) and Jhon Kennedy Hurtado at Seattle for $37,000. Wow. Holy bargain basement.

Cameron can play as a two-way mid or a centre half and is already in the U.S. national team pool, was a finalist for rookie of the year last year.

Montero is worth 300k. He is terribly underpaid IMO. If we're using him as a measuring stick as has been taking place, then Barrett is worth more than 100k.

The reason his salary is so high is because he's on loan. I'm betting that his contract with Independiente pays him more than 288k (5600/week), therefore Independiente is paying for some of his wages while he's here (probably like 5k/week or something).

He was making that much before the DP rule and so he was grandfathered in without taking up a DP slot. Eddie Johnson and Carlos Ruiz were also making more than 400K and were also grandfathered in when the DP came in.

I guess we just have to wait and see what he's making on next year's union list. Could be a backloaded contract.
