^classic uninformed TFC article. MLS trades are mostly about clearing roster spots for signings - they're rarely value-for-value type moves. Afterwards Mo said Casey wanted to be moved. Casey is from there, so it made sense, but you have to take whatever Mo says about player moves with a grain of salt

The real story: Mo moved Casey to make room for...get this.... an aging English striker that was warming the bench at PNE. The guy was practically in a nursing home. The real question was, could the creaky old codger that Mo had found handle the transatlantic flight over? (No reporter ever sussed out this key angle.)

If MLS want to do well in international competitions (e.g. CONCACAF CL), they will need to raise the cap. Here's an interesting study:

Money buys soccer success: study

Twelve of the 20 soccer clubs that spent the most money on players in Europe's five biggest leagues went on to win the title over the last four years, and 90 per cent of the top-spending clubs in those leagues have gone on to finish in the top three, according to research published Wednesday.

That's what I remember; and the article also mentions the turf didn't do him any good either. But I forget though, how was he acquired in the first place? Was it the expansion draft?

He was brought into the league by TFC as a discover signing. :(

^Are you really unhappy? If we'd kept Casey, there would be no Dichio.

People forget why roster moves were made in the first place.

I hope that the writer is not serious when he says Joseph who? He must understand that that Lapira was a highly toughted player and that he is now overseas. I am not a Mo defender, but the trade makes more sense in that light.

I still don't get why Lapira left to go to norway

Lapira had a Euro passport too I believe, so it was easy for him to make the move

well yes, spending money's great of course, but for an alternative view, here's two articles published yesterday, i don't even have to go back to august.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/p/portsmouth/8235070.stm

"Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie has admitted the club came close to going into administration "a couple of times". Pompey, who were bought by Sulaiman Al Fahim last week, have sold a series of star names in the last few months in an attempt to balance the books
Storrie said Pompey had been living "way outside our means".
Asked about going into administration, he told BBC Radio 5 live: "On a couple of occasions it got very close." "

and

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/sep/03/west-ham-financial-crisis-37m-loss

"The shocking extent of West Ham United (http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/westhamunited)'s financial crisis during the Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson era has been laid bare in the clubs's accounts, which have been obtained by the Guardian. The documents reveal a business strategy that, in the opinion of the club's finance director, Nick Igoe, was "fundamentally flawed".
The accounts set out a loss of more than £37.4mfor the year ending 2008, which was covered by an injection of £30.5m of cash from the holding company of the former owner, Gudmundsson, and £17m of new loans negotiated with the banks in January 2008"

So let's not get too crazy, i'd rather have a mediocre league than nothing.

Fair enough John...I can speak for myself that I know what it feels like to be under extreme pressure, with your job on the line, your value being questioned, and internally you are questioning yourself and your self-worth...I understand all that, but IMO how you act in those situations is the real testament of your character...not saying anything specific about CC but based on the other DD thread...I have my guesses.

Boo-ya! Crunch time. This is the stuff that legends are made of. Redemption time.

Call it an opportunity to rise to the occasion. He has my hopes now. He'll have my sympathy then.
