IF TFC is interested in establishing a football tradition in Toronto, this type of match is something that certainly needs to be considered.

Never mind the BS of retiring a number - hold it back, don't assign it but re-issue the number when it's deserved and earned by subsequent member of the club. Enable the tradition by establishing a standard.

After only three years, Dichio is certainly worthy of TFC recognizing his contribution and impact that has greatly benefited the club. Supporters love the big man!

NUFF SAID!

If this is DD's last season; TFC should host a testamonial for him next year.

I don't think any other team in the MLS has a player they've grown so attached to :D

He definately deserves one. We should bring back the players from the squad that he scored his goal with. Let him play one half there, and one half with the current team. It'd be kinda cool :)

Weeeeell if you want us to establish a football tradition they wouldnt have a testimonial, as it is most often done for a players 10 years of service to a club. And if they "retire" #9 I'll lose it completely!! :)

But something should be done for Danny to recognize what he means to us....other than we'll love him forever i mean

Free for all STHs.

It would be cool to see both teams wearing all #9s. I wonder who would play on the team with Danny D?

-Sutton
-Mo Edu
-O'Brien
-Serioux
-Brennan
-Robbo
-Ricketts
-Guevara

A testimonial for DD would be good..but who to bring in? One of DD's previous clubs? Lets hope TFC can do this for players that dont make a lot to begin with.

Just invite these guys after playoffs:

Greg Sutton, Marvell Wynne, Andrew Boyens, Tyrone Marshall, Todd Dunivant, Jim Brennan, Andy Welsh, Carl Robinson, Ronnie O'Brian, and Andrea Lombardo, if any of um say no, just ask someone else.

I don't know friendlies are one thing. This lowers the bar to "kick about" level. I love DD, but I'm not sure I have a night in my schedule for this. Some of us, have to sell our souls to get to all the home games. League games, CCL, friendlies, big name friendlies, and now testimonials. Not pissing on your parade Sullivan, but I'm sure many are in the same boat as me. (Having said all this.... I'd make an effort to go! :) )

Dont give MLSE any money grabbing ideas.

Part of a Testimonial is donating the proceeds to a charity of the players choice.

I recommend Testamonial MATCH be.....

TFC VS QUEENS PARK RANGERS!

Where his career began..and where it finished! I think this would be something very special for DANNY!

Ya, im sure 'part of the proceeds' will go to charity.

Just like 'part of the proceeds' of those pink jerseys went to charity.

It was a pittance. Something like 5 percent.

They should also give out Danny Dichio shirts, and scarves commemorating his career with the TFC. This would be a great event for a great player.

If they retire #9 that is FUCKED up you have to be unreal to have that number retired. Newcastle didn't retire it for Shearer, there is no way TFC should for Dichio's 3 seasons what a joke.

But a testimonial is a great idea for sure, love Danny he will be the most remembered #9 the club has ever had for sure due to his goals even if we do sign a proper star #9.

This lowers the bar to "kick about" level.

If you look up Testimonial in the dictionary you'll certainly find 'kick about'.

It'll be 10-8 to Dichio 'Select' with him scoring from the spot with the very last kick of the game.

doesnt the player get the money or part of it? that was my understanding of it.

originally yes, that's what it was for, help send the player into retirement with a nice bonus, especially back in the maximum wage days. help with the transition to a second career.

Nowadays, with some of the outrageous salaries out there, a lot of people are going the charity route instead.

has Danny made enough money that he's already set up for life? I doubt it, so I'd have no problem with him keeping some or all of the money. the club should be merely covering costs though, not making any kind of profit.
