Not sure we can boast too much about the 20k considering 16k STH's didn't pay for the ticket.

so Columbus had to pay for theirs? r u sure?

besides... if they weren't included in the seasons this year i still think we'd get around 18k

Either way it's pretty obvious that we pretty destroyed everyone else as far as attendance goes.
Now as for on the field...

Other than Pachuca and Cruz Azul, those numbers suck donkey balls.

Like at least 3. Supporters need time (for somee reason) to change their mindset/priorities.

WTF?! What did they do, go round up the bums and lure them into the stadium with promises of food?
Those #'s are pathetic!

...and Montreal pulls in 45K in the big O. Ridiculous. Who says this is not a soccer country?

Our own league would help get rid of those assumptions.

The CCL is still very new and it might be a few years before fans desire the trophy more than national glory. Hopefully we'll be going in that direction. I love cup games, and though the Canada Cup is great and everything it's still not the same.

Agreed. But I doubt we'll get more CL slots from CONCACAF since we don't have first division pro league in Canada.

I doubt it.

The only club to average more than 4000 a game outside of Mexico, USA, Canada is Saprissa for league games.

The average attendance for the next highest attended league outside of Mexico, USA, Canada is Costa Rica. And they average about 2000 a game.

Now that we've pat ourselves on the back for Champions league attendance in this country over two short years I'd like to compare it to our turnout to National games.

I'd say that our country is one of the last in our region for support attendance. Especially when one factors in how many times we've been outnumbered by limitless away support.

Canada footie=Club before Country?

Well, yeah, that's our history so far. That's the way it is in other sports. There was an article in the paper yesterday that mentioned the current camp for Olympic hockey players is the first generation that would put winning a Gold Medal close to the same as winning the Stanley Cup. None of our other sports - baseball, football, basketball, hell even lacrosse - have ever had much interntional interest. It's always been about the clubs.

This may be one of the big changes in the coming years, though. As the article said, it's starting in hockey, it could happen in other sports, too.
