I really don't understand why MLS absolutely has to buy the USL. At all.

Steve Goff wonders if this is the worst miss ever (in MLS? in the history of footy???).. cunningham's last year was up there... but this is probably worse:

watching it again and again...............i think Cunningham's was worse.

Cunningham was almost on the goal line.

Jarod's was pretty bad too, when he some how defied physics and sent it straight up and back a bit

The "star" striker on my son's team missed an open net from 3 feet away yesterday, losing them a trophy.

That means he's... ready for MLS!

At least he hit the ball. Serioux missed it entirely. Could've been a different game had he scored on that chance.

Ottawa's pro soccer dream not dead yet

MLS is still a possibility (Yeah..right) but in the lower portion of the article it says the USL is looking as a better fit. They could be the 4th club for the NCC.

the problem is you dont want anything good for the sport here, with any connection to the CFL...you dont want gridirion lines on a MLS/USL pitch,
thats a no go...any anything with CFL connections ie Ottawa is doomed
to fail as Ottawa has had the smarts other Canadian cities did not and see the cfl for what it is...crap and i expect ottawa fans to do the same again if the crappy football league comes to town. The USL is going under, MLS would be smart to stay away from any involvement (buying)
this league. Ottawa city council would be throwing good money away fixing up a stadium for a cfl franchise that play 8 home games a year,
hardly worth it, when you could go with Melnyk and get a MLS franchise
with 15 home games a year, 3 Canadian Championship games, CCL,
international club friendlies, Canadian team matches, so going with the MLS deal would be better for ottawa as a whole.

That's two articles with facts in error. Can he get his articles fact checked. Unless I'm in error and he's not 6'3"

Also (as per the top article from the Sun) why do people feel that Promotion Regulation is a must in North America when no other league does it, and there isn't a mentality to support it? The average fan just doesn't understand the system, and the organic method in which it came about in Europe (through club competitions being the norm with hundreds of clubs in heavily populated nations the size of US states and smaller then most Canadian Provinces.

It's not a system that can work here, at least not right now. Nor does it need to, Hockey and Baseball shows that promotion of players from a lower league rather then teams is just as effective in breeding top players (what 50+% of the NHL is Canadian?). US Football shows a college developed system works well too.

Again for those that think that MLS isn't taken seriously because of it, have to ask your self if the NHL set the standard for play for Hockey as a franchise system, why was the Russian Superleague considered the second best league in the world and well respected with it's promotion regulation system?

sorry better now... :)

I would still prefer a Hamilton USL team more so then a Ottawa team.

wheres Hamilton going to get a SSS that doesnt involve cfl lines or the Tiger cats...soccer cant be a secondary tenant to cfl teams ever. Ivor Wynne is what it is a relic of a stadium thats way past its time. And
not suitable for the USL.

And, so I'll feel better ;), I always like to mention that NCAA athletics also produce the best basketball players in the world and the best track and field athletes in the world (Usain Bolt is unique in that he didn't train at a US college), swimmers, golfers, etc.. Someday they will produce top soccer players, too.
