HOUSTON, TX -- The Houston Dynamo have signed Mexican forward Luis Angel Landín as the club's first designated player. Landin will join the club on a loan deal that runs through the end of 2010, at which time the club will have an option to acquire his rights permanently. DPs who needs em' !

The top teams in the league don't have them, like look at Chicago, Columbus, Seattle, L.A...Houston.

Oh wait.

Nevermind :(

I remember this being a rumor last season too. I've never seen him play but I have heard of him. We'll see soon enough how good he will be I'm sure..

LOL ... I can guarantee that if Houston fails to win MLS Cup this year, people will blame that on this signing somehow.

Why would we need a DP ? Mo is busy getting himself signed for a long term contract, when that is done, we will focus on the secondary DP signing. We have Mo locked up, thank goodness.

Good for Houston, signing a DP who isn't 30. This must be the youngest DP in MLS history as well right?

so if this is a loan - how was this done after the window?

I thought it could only be out of contract, MLS or USL until Sept 15.:noidea:

The transfer window in world football is open until the end of August. My apologies if it's MLS' stated policy to close it earlier, though.

Holy fuck, Landin is a hell of a signing. This guy is very young, I mean, very young for a DP in the MLS. Not only that, he's a heck of a player.

Perhaps they submitted the paperwork for him a while ago, and have been haggling with MLS over the contract. That's my guess.

Wow and Akinbiyi was released. He was highly rated by a friend of mine who is a Burnley supporter. I honestly expected him to do something but apparently couldn't crack the line up.

I don't follow the Mexican league as much as others... but I think this guy was more hype than anything else... his last club was Cruz Azul... a giant (the people's choice) but by no means a monetary $$$ giant like America. I think he fell out of favour with the management at Cruz Azul, but I could be wrong...

Good on Houston for this signing, if he works out. I don't mind a whit, because we aren't really competing with Houston for a post-season spot this year anyway.

Of course, if he does set the league on fire, I don't expect him to stay long.

This is a good signing. He's a solid player.

Probably not as expensive as a Blanco or an Angel.

Houston is obviously trying to shore up their position expecting to face Columbus in the MLS Cup final. That's where I see this going.

I like the fact that he is young and coming from la Primera Division de Mexico... I think too many Mexican players regard the MLS as a Mickey Mouse league or Retirement League (a la Blanco) time to get some respect...

I'm surprised about Akinbiyi, he was a physical monster for Sheff U as well. Thought he would have complimented the league well...
