View Full Version : Drinks on offer @ BMO

Call it a wish list but I thought I'd throw this out there.

Non booze

Water (fountain): Why the hell are the water fountains at BMO stuck behind stacked kegs and concessions...you can't get to them. TFC/BMO this is a serious issue you need to sort out

http://www.4bathrooms.co.uk/store/images/T/S5435pic.jpg

Bovril: It's beef water...broth...whatever you want to call it, on those cold rainy april/may nights this stuff keeps the blood flowing. Upside - it will boost TFC's street cred with snobby brit football fans!

http://www.bargaincoffee.co.uk/images/bovril_sm.jpg

Booze:

Current
Carlsberg: 8/10. So much better than what is offered at most sporting events in Toronto (jays Blue, Leafs Cdn)

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R5pqmVBsFfc/Sf51df6sHwI/AAAAAAAADaI/NdHvJ8TFAU0/s400/bmomoney.jpg

Smirnoff Ice: 3/10. I bet they sell a decent amount of this stuff, but I think that probably has more to do with it being the only beer alternative than people actually liking it...at least I hope.

http://moremeatloaf.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/zima.jpg

Wish list:
Corona: It may not be from England, but I'm sure it's widely consumed at football matches in SA. Great in the summer, especially a 40 degree BMO. The extra upside for TFC is that most women will drink it and the pop collar 905ers love this stuff...dude buddy, it's mint.

Motts Caesars: Where is the love for Canada's national cocktail? Ice cold in a can, this stuff is pretty damn good. Upside, it's RED!

Hahahaha re: "pop collar 905ers." So true.

Tetley's has been pretty good and you can also get steamwhistle. On tap I wouldn't mind Heineken, although it's pretty much same as Carlsberg and they obviously sponsor the game.

As for water fountains, keep dreaming. The more inconvenient they make 'em, the more likely you are to spring for a $3.50 bottle at concession.

Fountains have been an issue since year one and still haven't been addressed. Where can you get Steamwhistle on tap?

I'd love to see some more local Toronto beers, Mill St, Great lakes.

Caesars would be a good idea.

If they were to sell Bovril at BMO, they'd likely call it "Ye Olde Bovril". See "Ye Olde Chip Butty".

In other words, there goes the street cred.

In Chicago they sell freshly squeezed lemonade with vodka. That was the best drink ever had at any stadium.

They could charge $8 - $9 for alcholic version and $4-5 for non alchoic. You make it friendly for both drinkers and non.

Water fountains - agreed. Anyone know if BMO Field is in breach of health and safety or other government Regs on this? If so, one terse letter threatening to report them will solve this issue before next season's home opener, I guarantee it. MLSE will not want the place shut down for any breach (although neiter do we so careful how you try this one if anyone is thinking about it!!!)

http://www.freefoto.com/images/9905/04/9905_04_3---Crime-Scene-Do-Not-Enter_web.jpg

Bovril - I'd love it, but no-one here will really know what the hell it is and the number of games they'd actually sell any Bovril at (even to those who know and love it) is pretty limited, plus it's a faff to prepare. Aint gonna happen (and spot the Glasgow experience for asking for this!). Given its properties though, we might want to give some to the lads before matches:

http://www.fmft.net/Bovril.jpg

Beer choices - everyone will have their own opinion but bottom line is it's gotta be mainstream and (probably) have some connection to whoever owns and brews Carlsberg in Canada under the sponsorship agreement. As sporting venue beer choices go, we're actually not too badly off (ie, could be a lot, lot worse), although it's the only time I ever touch Carlsberg. They've been good footie sponsors around the world though, so fair play to them for that.

Other booze - again, everyone wants their own random drink choice in place. I don't think the red angle will get you Caesars at BMO Field, Mike, but nice try! No-one is gonna drink them anyway, too heavy. Any non-beer booze needs to be mainstream, come pre-mixed and be gluggable on hot days. That kind of limits the options and a vodka based cooler is probably the best bet. Althoguh JD & Coke comes pre mixed I think, and that would be far more preferable or even a good option alongside the Smirnoff Ice. Will JD go for it though, and will BMO Field stock another option and put pressure on stock space?

I'd like a Strongbow, please. Cider is a refreshing drink on a hot day (or pretty much any day).

Downside: during a game I would probably drink four of them, BMO would be performing a major cash-ectomy on my wallet.

As for the beef broth...I'd try it.
Can't say I'd buy it on the reg if all it is is beef broth.

Chicken (beef) soup anyone?

Carlsberg is shit by the way. Tuborg is where it's at!

I enjoy both, though I'm more likely to keep Strongbow in the house. To me Magners has an unusual, sharp finish and didn't like it at first but I've developed a taste for it.

I've been drinking a lot of Smithwicks lately, and of course there is always Guinness in the house. I rarely bother with lagers anymore, unless I'm just drinking bargain beer at the pub.

Anyway, since we do have beer sales like I said I would like to see some Toronto beers being sold, this is :scarf: after all.

Magners over Strongbow for me.
Though, find me a bar in this city that actually serves a proper cider and I will be grateful.

I usually drink Tetelys at the game, though Carlsberg is fine.

As for the Bovril... not sure people would take to it very well.
Though, if they sold it as a "hot soup" instead, then they might sell a few in the cold months.

Believe it or not, I actually drank from a water fountain at the last game.
Outside gate 111... but it is usually hidden behind the ATM line.
That fountain saved my life on that day! Sooooo hot!

Last match at the half my throat was all dried up so I went to go to the water fountain in the South end...which of course was blocked by the beer vendors. Not knowing where another one was I decided to walk to the West side to look for one....well I ended up doing a lap of the stadium until I finally found one on the East side. I ended up missing the second half kick off because of the crowd.

But yeah useless story...but something that needs to be addressed....again

I'm changing my post. You can't get beer at footie games in England (at least, not outside the club bar if you're ucky enough to have one), so to be able to stand in the sun in July/AUgust and sink a cold one is just amazing.

I am now grateful for what we have, and I don't want to complain about it! :D:D:D

Ugh... Sam Adams is dreadful at best. In a stadium it's even worse, like drinking sludge straight from the sewers of Boston.

I would like to put a vote in for O'Douls (non-alcoholic) beer for us tee-totaler types. I actually spoke to the head Food & Beverage guy way back at the original "open-house" night and he made a specific note of my suggestion. Alas, there has never been any sign of it since. I do not think that Carlsberg has their own '.05' brand that I am aware of (it's amazing how much selection there is the in the US...even had a Guinness brand called 'Kaliber')...anyway, I would enjoy a cold NA beer during the game (and still get to drive home !)

Don't understand all the hate for Sam Adams...I love the stuff. Way better than most American macro-swill. In fact, I'd go on a New England road trip just to get it at the stadium. You used to be able to get it at the Rogers Centre (in those bars on the 200 levels, anyway).

I really hope they have Yeungling at the new Philly Stadium, that would be awesome...

As an example of the water situation at BMO.....My 9 year old was treated for heatstroke on Saturday - I ran to buy 2 warm Dasani waters for a scandalous $7.

The water fountains near us is behind a Carlsberg stand and is inaccessible.

The club could get some great PR by setting up tables offering cold water for $1/ $1.50 in July/August.It only costs 0.25 per unit wholesale (if even that much), so the club would still make money, while acting in a more responsible manner to the paying customers. Having said this, I'm sure there are contractual reasons why BMO Field would not do this.

Meantime, a big THANK YOU to all those in 115/114 who helped Andrew out with water, checked on him (esp Mark- blue shirt security guy at the entrance of 114 and his great security team in that section), the Carlsberg stand guy behind 114 who gave us a bag of ice, and the paramedic.

We should realistically have access to free water. I went to Yankee Stadium in July and there were water fountains every 20 feet, now I know that they make ridiculous money but come on water is cheap and easily found in this part of the world and we pay to stand in the heat we should get some sort of free liquid.

Americans love Sam Adams... I can't understand why on earth they do?!

I had some of their English Brown Ale and I was impressed. It was very good. At that time, I did not know that there was any good beer made in the USA but now I know that there is some quality "non-mass manufactured swill" available out there just as is there is here!

They could also arrange for some patio misters.

There is an amazing amount of small producer/brewpub beers available now, I can think of five or six in Michigan alone. Some of it is even available in the local supergroceries. No excuse now for drinking bad beer, though you do pay for the quality.

I fear the Bud banners might be a sign of future offerings ...

Why? Bud is the official beer of MLS - has been for years

I'd kill for a steamwhistle on gameday. A man can only drink so much Carlsberg. Has anyone actually seen it, or are you guys just teasing me?

Also, I remember drinking tuborg in year 1 from a private box, but haven't seen it elsewhere in the stadium. Does this exist anywhere in bmo? I thought carlsberg was our only option.

You can get Tetleys, Tuborg, and Canadian in the beer garden. They used to also carry Carlsberg Light; which I would prefer over Carlsberg. But they have not had it since season 1.

I would love if they sold Kronenbourg! It's a Carlsberg product and it comes in 500ml cans so it would be a welcomed addition.

Magners > Strongbow...Although Strongbow reminds me of when Leeds were on top of the world :D

bleh. i really don't like magners.... too sweet.

i'd prefer strongbow, and if BMO were to stock a cider, it would most likely be strongbow.
