I was just sent a release from the Islanders that confirms that Velez will be joining that team for the rest of the season.

Good for marco if that's what he wanted. I guess he'll be happy that Cummins didn't play him in Puerto Rico, as he's not cup tied he can play in the cl for them.

Well at least he got to be shirtless and in the centre of the Canadian Champions picture.

Gotta love Velez enthusiasm.

He was running around with the 'Believe' banner in Montreal. Not the greatest defender, but I still felt he had a role in this team. Move is probably for the best though.

Another change, another TFC player that clearly didn't have to quality to play in MLS. Marco was a step behind a bit to often.

Good for him to get the chance to play back home. Good luck Marco.

he is also LOVED in Puerto Rico. When he came out of that tunnel (or I mean dugout) it was intense. Their supporters group and fans love him. Great news for Marco. Good luck.

He won't be able to play CCL.

He's being brought in by PR to play USL games so that a starting defender can rest for the CCL.

Good guy ... massively in over his head in the MLS. Wish him all the best back with Puerto Rico and in the USL. He'll remain a soccer legend in the island considering how he'll always be the first Puerto Rican to play in the MLS.

Yep- say what you want, but the man was pumped about playing for us, and never lacked for passion. It was fine that he was front and centre during the VC celebrations, because he actually cared about it.

Best of luck to him.. wasn't good enough for MLS but still a great guy. You can see his passion every game, and that he loved being here. What I would give for the entire team to share his sort of passion for the club..

Good luck to him in the USL-1 though. He wasn't a good fit for MLS.

Glad he has a place to go.
As I said many a time, there was no way in hell he was gonna be with this team for the start of next season. Glad to see they moved him sooner rather than later though.

Mad respect for Marco Velez. The guy wasn't the most talented, but he worked hard, and really cared about the team.

Marco was probably the least valuable player in TFC history. I don't think he was the worst (Reda was, at CB at least), but his ineptitude combined with the amount of playing time he received probably cost TFC the most points over the club's short history.

Food for thought:

Over the last couple of months TFC has shed $529 300 and change in salary between Harmse, Sutton, Ricketts, Smith and Velez.
Thats alot of dough for dropping all the dead wood.

If he didn't have the tendency to have brainfarts during crucial times, Velez would have had a role in TFC.

Too bad. I always thought he enjoyed playing football.

He was the first player to ever kiss the badge. I will remember that fact!

He was a fringe player, but loads of respect for his passion. He always gave 100%.

This works out for both parties. I wish Marco all the best in PR and hope that he can get some better playing time than he could here. Much respect to Marco he always played a very passionate game. I agree best moment was the We Believe banner in MTL. He looked more happy than some of the Canadian's in the team.

Wow. This guy was a bane on the boards for a time. It's great to see people come around and appreciate for what he was. A good player from the bench with a fantastic attitude. Kissing the badge first. Now he's going back home. Good Luck to MARCO...VELEZ.

GL to him. It was nice to see someone play w/ so much passion and seemed like a genuine guy. Sadly he had some brain farts at times.

At least he's going home and will be playing instead of rotting away on the bench.

But now who's going to translate for Guevara and Vitti? lol

He might've been a pylon at times, but he was our pylon. lol

He scored the winner when we played our first match in Mtl., just for that he should always have a place in TFC history

While Velez's play may've fallen short on many occasions, you can't argue that he did his best on most nights.

for whats its worth i rated Velez ahead of garcia on my depth chart....One of a few guys who plays with his heart on his sleeve and work ethic is tremendous!!...all the best !
