In one of the toughest losses of the season for Toronto FC, Scarborough's Julian de Guzman has turned down an offer to become the club's highest-paid player.
The 28-year-old Canadian international midfielder, who has spent nearly a decade playing in Spain and Germany, told TFC officials this week he's looking to continue his career in Europe rather than suit up for the home side in a two-year deal worth $2.75 million.

It has been a long wait for Amadou Sanyang, but the young Gambian will finally be able to play for Toronto FC when he turns 18 on Saturday. The midfielder will travel with the squad for the first time for the match at New England (Saturday at 8:00 p.m. live on GOLTV.) "I'm excited to get to this moment," said Sanyang. "I have been preparing for this for a long time and I think if I get the chance to play everything will go well."

If this was supposed to be the kick start to the week that was going to make or break TFC's season, then the first crack has already appeared.
It's a familiar refrain but it's the truth. Too many chances missed, and a failure to defend the most basic play, even one they knew was coming, did them in again. Head coach Chris Cummins put it that way rather bluntly in his post game address in the aftermath of the 1-0 loss to Puerto Rico. And it's not like it's the first time.
