Just to add since we taped this I am hearing that the left back is Haiti left back Lesly Felinga who was with Herenveen in Holland.

A new LB would make a lot of sense, Brennan has always been much more effective at LM and ever since Dunivant left (and was injured before that), we've never had good cover at that position. It's also just not Serioux's position though he manages to muddle through. He's obviously best in the centre and at the same time, keeps Velez out of the CB position (though that matters less now that Gomez has effectively leapfrogged him in the depth chart).

In my view:

Garcia-Attakora-Serioux (first tier CBs)
Gomez (second tier)
Velez (zillionth tier)

a new LB? good maybe it'll light a fire under Brennan's ass to actually contribute to our back line. Gawd has he been poor lately.

I asked a buddy of mine who follows the eredivisie and he told me he knows abit about this kid, really average, supposedly passes the ball around really well but thats about it.

Maybe he needs more first team playing time, who knows. Here's a good read:

He only played one game last year with Heerenveen.

Played mainly with the reserves.

If Felinga is good and gets on the squad, I'd like to see Brennan used more on the wing (god knows we need some good wingers) if he doesn't stick at the wing I think it's time to move on and use him sparingly or trade him.

height isnt an issue for wing backs, never is.
Now if he was CB thats different.

TFC needs to go with a younger squad.

Ask D.C United for their player depth plan

Interesting, maybe move Brennan to CB. Looked strong when he played there in the past. Lots of TFC content on the Footy Show podcast today - worth a listen.

Brennan should NOT be playing CB, defending has been his biggest weakness, we dont need to get any weaker there

FIFA scout rates this guy at 56 whereas Brennen is a 64.
He's supposedly slow as hell and doesn't really have any redeemng qualities.
Obviously this doesn't mean much but it's enough to keep me from getting the least bit excited about him.
I'll be surprised if he makes it past a few days of trialing.

now compare brennans contract to what his would be...
compare brennas age to his .....
there is alot of positive factors before negative....
he wouldnt be considered to come in right away

What exactly is his strength then?

He was very forceful and commanding at CB. IMO he no longer has the dynamism to left back or wing.

Here are his Football Manager's stats ... vastly superior to FIFA's imo ...

His current rating is 61.46 ... potential rating is 65.51 ...

Jim Brennan's rating is 69.83 .....

One of the problems with Canadian sports teams: What to do with loyal players, who the fans love, when they are not good enough anymore. I think more of this with Robinson. He seems like a heart and soul guy, but if he and Cronin are doing the same job, and Cronin does it better, why keep Robinson? It seems in some markets it's easier to let go of players because fans are not so attached, but Toronto fans are almost too loyal sometimes (see Mats Sundin)

Mats Sundin is the wrong example. He was the best player on the Leafs even when he left. I think Darcy Tucker or Tie Domi are better comparisons.

it is as a winger and he was decent for a while as a defender but seems to have slipped in one manner or another, even as a winger hes getting older and losing his touch, that being said i love everything hes done for TFC but he needs to be benched when we have a suitable replacement. Benching your captain is hard to do.

Ask D.C United for their player depth plan

Height can be an issue for a wing backs if the opposition plays high balls down the wings to either their strikers making diagonal runs out wide or strikers playing off the shoulder of the defenders. It can also be an issue if the same trick is deployed for fast wingers, it would not be the first time a small wing back has miscalculated his jump and lack of height and left opposition players in lots of free space behind, this is turn usually draws in one of the CB's for cover which then leaves space in the middle where most teams will have their strikers and attacking midfielders running in to capitalize on any cross or rebound from a shot. Also a lack of height can pose problems at corner kicks, set pieces or crosses into the box. A lot of big strikers will intentionally move towards small wing backs in the box if the opposition team is utilizing zonal marking. Small wings backs need to be fast or they need to have good positioning skills to combat their lack of height.

I don't know this player but a slow LB is crazy. You are typically marking one of the fastest and most skilled players on the opposition. In the modern game full backs are really important attacking players too. His stats show that he has never scored a professional goal.

^^He's only a LB.
