TFC falls after forgettable first half
Paul Attfield
Welcome to the Champions League – CONCACAF style.
Unlike its more glamorous European counterpart, there’s no Cristiano Ronaldo or Kaka to be found here – Toronto fans will have to wait until next Friday for a first-hand glimpse of the Real Madrid pair – and fanciful visions of away trips to the San Siro and Old Trafford will have to be replaced with the hardened reality of another prospective journey to Crew Stadium in Columbus, should Toronto FC qualify for the group stage.

John F. Molinaro

Still smarting from a heartbreaking decision against the Columbus Crew last weekend, Toronto suffered another major setback Wednesday night with a 1-0 loss to the visiting Puerto Rico Islanders at BMO Field.
Trinidadian forward Kendall Jagdeosingh was the hero for Puerto Rico, his goal in the 67th minute standing up as the difference in the opener of this CONCACAF Champions League preliminary playoff.

TFC behind the eight ball
THE CANADIAN PRESS
TORONTO -- Toronto FC certainly has developed a knack of making matters difficult for themselves.
Kendall Jagdeosingh scored the lone goal to lead the Puerto Rico Islanders to a 1-0 victory over Toronto FC on Wednesday in the first leg of a two-game preliminary-round series of the CONCACAF Champions League.
Now, Toronto FC must win Tuesday's return game in the unfriendly confines of Bayamon, Puerto Rico to advance to the 16-team group stage.

Down in the dumps
Puerto Rico plays TFC to perfection in crucial Champions League win
By LANCE HORNBY (lance.hornby@sunmedia.ca),
Toronto FC's stay in the CONCACAF Champions League looks to be a short one. The Puerto Rico Islanders did exactly what they had to, keep the home team under wraps and wait for a 1-0 gift. It came in the 66th minute when Toronto netminder Stefan Frei lost a challenge for a loose ball to Kendall Jagdeosingh and the Isles silenced the BMO Field crowd of 20,758.

Reds lose to Islanders in Prelims of Champions League
TFC fell 1-0 Wednesday evening at BMO Field
By Mark Polishuk
TORONTO -- Toronto FC came up short in their first taste of CONCACAF Champions League action, dropping the first leg of qualifying tie against the Puerto Rico Islanders, 1-0, on Wednesday night at BMO Field. Kendall Jagdeosingh's second-half goal was all the offense that Puerto Rico needed in spite of being outshot by a 17-6 margin by a Toronto side that just couldn't turn their attacking advantage into a conversion.

Life gets a lot harder for Toronto FC
Puerto Rico 1 Toronto 0. Team's CONCACAF hopes take big hit with opening loss
Joe O'Connor
The weather. It has been on everybody's mind, weighing Toronto down like a wet blanket, blotting out the summer sun, drowning golf's Canadian Open last week and sapping the communal spirit in a garbage-strike-ridden city.
It has been one of those summers for Canada's largest metropolis, when there is nothing much good to say.

Why does Sportsnet use the headline "behind the eight ball"? That would mean we're about to win as we only have the eight ball left to sink.

It's not an uncommon expression. I'm guessing there's other pool balls in hypothetical play and TFC are snookered "behind the 8-Ball".

Missd the game yesterday, which was problably a good thing considering what the result was. I would have gone completely psycho had I watched that. I don't know how all you guys who watched stayed alive.

And I think the Sun is mocking us. They put out a hot bodied cutie, who's an Argo cheerleader, on the day after that soul sucking loss just to mess with our minds. Just my deluded, conspiracy theoried opinion.

I've totally had that SSG as a flight attendant!! I was flying back from Edmonton to Ottawa for work about two months ago and I remember that face and that body!
Holy hell she was hot (and still is!)

Just a little news note:

Kristian Jack just said on the footy show podcast that he knows for a fact that " MLSE will be making 3 million dollars on the Real Madrid game after all expenses"

This is major given that the FO have gone on about the high cost of bringing them in and the grass etc when justifying the high ticket prices.

brutal.
