I gotta give props to Seattle cause this game is EXCELLENT.
Sounders playing on par with Chelsea for the most part and the atmosphere is incredible. With the huge vocal crowd and the electronic boards its like watching a regular season Primiership match.
So exciting for the future of MLS.

2 - 0 Chelsea at the intermission.
Sturridge the first goal and Lampard with the second.

Holy crap, Petr Cech's kit looks TERRIBLE.

Been watching for about 10 minutes now. Pretty decent game. Seattle are playing well, even if you keep in mind that this is basically a workout session for Chelsea.

Atmosphere sounds great - I'm assuming they filled the entire stadium for this game, and not just the sections they open for league play?

67,000 tickets sold.

BTW, I think his kit is actually pretty cool in light of where and who they are playing against.

Watching this game makes me so glad we have Nigel Reed.
Even the best american commentators make it sound like a pointy ball game.

Oh and Sounders are working their asses off and deserve some goals.

That was going to be my next question - whether they were playing on the turf, or if they trucked grass in. It's hard to tell from the blurry internet stream.

I've watched the entire first half and so far, Seattle has given a good account of themselves. The differences maker at this point is positionning. Defensively, Chelsea are perfect and Seattle can't get the final ball in the net, while on the defence the Sounders are sometimes askew positonally and Chelsea has made them pay with 2 goals. Good crowd but even with 67000 people, it sounds no louder than BMO during the first couple of years. Good display for MLS so far.

$100,000 for the grass, they're donating to a local high school afterwards. Nice gesture. They're going to have to purchase it again when they play Barca in August.

Chelsea are by no means treating this as a walk in the park and are playing hard.
Give Seattle their due.

We'll be lucky to fair half as well againest Real Madrid.
We have no movement and they'll stifle us offensively.
I predict the ball in our end the entire match.

this is another reason why i wouldnt bother paying the crazy cash to see that game, youre gonna see madrid build a lead prolly, then rest all the stars second half, tfc will rest all the big names as well second half, so why bother taking out the loan you need to see the game lol

Thats game 2-0.
Seattle played so hard and I honestly think they deserved a draw. Chelsea only edged Seattle 13 - 10 in shots taken.
When Lundberg came off around the 70th minite though all of Seattles movement disappeared and they played long ball.

Numbers are not the issue. Their fans actually are in their seats.
We have people in the Beer garden or at the concession stands constantly.

yeesh, yeah they have 67,000 bums in the seats. remember how we used to make fun of teams who couldnt fill out the stadium? today was a pole sitters game and it was embarrassingly empty. i know i didnt help by not going to the game but at least i had a sub going for me to the stands.

and yeah theres no complex, they are looking better in the stands than us, its just a fact. good on them. they can attract all those fans and they have a great stadium that allows the sound to travel better and creates a great atmosphere. seattle has upped us in the game atmosphere department.

As was mentioned by others at the game, there were lines outside the stadium still at the 40 minute mark, because everyone was getting frisked multiple times for booze.

And saying the upped the atmosphere on us, by the good grace of having a pre-existing stadium with better acoustics, isn't fair to us at all.

Did Montero play, and if so, how did he look against a much stronger defensive team?

Had a few pretty good moments, but like Stryker said - just couldn't complete anything in the final third of the pitch.

Still though - Seattle made MLS look pretty good today.

Few teams can against Chelsea, so that's not really a knock on Seattle.

no, not really. It's fitting that Chelski are playing Seattle because they're like brethren. Lots of people plus lots of giveaways= 'great atmosphere'.

CRISTIANO Ronaldo wore the white of Real Madrid last night for the first time since his record move from Manchester United, playing 45 minutes in a 1-0 friendly win over Irish side Shamrock Rovers.
But it was fellow big-money signing Karim Benzema who spared the Spanish side's blushes, striking three minutes from time against a team who flirted with bankruptcy four years ago and whose highest earner pockets around 1,000 a week.

Ronaldo's eADVERTISEMENT

very touch was booed by the 10,915 fans squashed into Rovers' Tallaght Stadium, where capacity was trebled to see Real's Galacticos who had trained for a week on the outskirts of Dublin.

Some tried to catch a glimpse of the world player of the year from nearby apartments, many with 190,000 for sale signs attached, roughly what Real's new No9 earns a week.

The Portuguese received a hostile reception and Rovers centre-half Pat Flynn sent the winger clattering to the floor after his first touches had sent him speeding past defenders in trademark style. With Kaka in Madrid alongside Real's other Confederations Cup representatives and Benzema starting on the bench, Ronaldo provided the only first-half evidence of Real's audacious spending spree of more than 200million.

Despite resting five leading players, the hosts matched their opponents in the first half, allowing only full-back Marcelo a clear sight at goal.

Ronaldo drew the biggest cheer of the first half when his free-kick went well wide and when a second effort tamely struck the wall 15 minutes later, the crowds taunts of 'Who are ya' grew louder. Ronaldo played no further part as new Real coach Manuel Pellegrini made nine changes at half-time.

Former Lyon forward Benzema was among the changes and after having a scuffed shot cleared off the line, he controlled a long ball expertly and coolly finished in the 87th minute to seal victory.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo's former manager Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed Manchester City as a major threat to Manchester United's Premier League title.

Ferguson has watched as City have splashed out millions in the pursuit of glory but still can't see beyond Chelsea and Liverpool as the main threats for the title.

"Given all that has happened in the transfer market this summer, it is a different type of challenge we are facing," he said.

"Manchester City are getting all the back-page stories and they will hold that position for the rest of the season because there is a lot of interest in what they have done and a lot of speculation about whether it is going to work.

"But I cannot look at Manchester City as our main competitors. Liverpool and Chelsea are our main competitors."
