Scheduling keeps De Rosario out of All-Star Game
By Mark Polishuk / MLSnet.com Staff
TORONTO -- Dwayne De Rosario always seems to be a newsmaker at the MLS All-Star Game, whether it's by scoring match-winning goals or capturing MVP honors.
But at the 2009 MLS All-Star Game, any headlines about De Rosario will center around his absence from the league's annual midseason spectacle.

De Rosario to miss MLS all-star game
The Canadian Press
Canadian midfielder Dwayne De Rosario is skipping the MLS all-star game to help Toronto FC in its CONCACAF Champions League game against the Puerto Rico Islanders.
Both games are July 29.
Chicago Fire midfielder Cuauhtemoc Blanco will replace De Rosario in the MLS all-star side that will play England’s Everton in Sandy, Utah.
Blanco received the next highest voting percentage in the midfield.

Canada looks to advance to second straight Gold Cup semi-final
The Canadian Press
Canada can advance to its second straight CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinal on Saturday, and help erase the sting of another disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign in the process.
Canada faces Honduras this weekend in quarter-final action at the soccer championship for North and Central America and the Caribbean.
The surprising Canadians were undefeated in group play, winning Group A with a 2-0-1 record for seven points. Canada defeated Jamaica and El Salvador by scores of 1-0, then tied Costa Rica 2-2.

Casualties in Hart's Army
By RYAN JOHNSTON Canadian coach Stephen Hart hopes a rash of injuries will not derail what has been a coming-out party for Canada at the Gold Cup.
After winning Group A with a 2-0-1 record, Canada will try to reach the tournament semi-finals for the second-straight time under Hart when the team hosts Group B runner-up Honduras on July 18 in Philadelphia.

the FAN590 reported that Hull City have offered Fulham $5M for Bobby Zamora.

I nearly crashed my car into a tree.

Not because of the offer, but that those words came out of Rick Ralph's mouth.

Easily the most bizarre moment of my day so far.

Canada have surprised more than a few pundits with their performances so far at the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Topping a group that also included high-flying Costa Rica, Caribbean champions Jamaica and El Salvador, the Canucks have a new spring in their step. Leading the way for the northerners is their Africa-born ace Ali Gerba, the country's all-time top scorer.

"It was no surprise to us that we won our group, but it did surprise a lot of other people," said Gerba, who plays for Toronto FC, American Major League Soccer's only Canadian outfit. "People don't really expect a lot from Canada, but we have some very good players and we can go a long way. We knew that."

Not a bad article from FIFA.com. More here:

wow... both Montreal and Vancouver seem to have problems with fighting their own teammates.
That's embarrassing.
Sure, I've known times when teammates will blow up at each other during practice...
but during a game? That's just stupid!

Julian De Guzman given more time to accept offer from TFC (http://my.thescore.com/footyblog/archive/2009/07/15/21336.aspx)
"Toronto FC's Director of Soccer Mo Johnston told me today that the club had originally given the Canadian international until Monday to decide on whether he would accept their offer but De Guzman's representatives have asked, and been granted, an extension.
"Talks are still ongoing and they have asked to keep the deadline open until after the Gold Cup," Johnston told The Score on Wednesday."
