Reds pick up much needed road victory
Eight of the final 13 games are away from BMO Field
Milenko Martinovich / MLSnet.com Staff
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Much has been made about Toronto FC's inability to win on the road and against the Western Conference.
Toronto certainly killed two birds with one stone with its 3-1 victory over San Jose on Saturday night at Buck Shaw Stadium.
And if Toronto is to solidify a playoff spot, it will have to duplicate performances like Saturday's. Eight of Toronto's remaining 13 games are on the road and against Western Conference teams.
Even with Saturday's victory, Toronto is a woeful 2-5-1 against the Western Conference and just 2-3-2 on the road.

i wonder when NE starts catching up to the pack in games played.
they are still hanging around but if they don't win those 2-3 games in hand, they are going to be in trouble.

Great to read about Barrett without the accompanying word "embattled."

More unrest in LA:

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) -- David Beckham said Los Angeles Galaxy teammate Landon Donovan was "unprofessional" for speaking out without confronting him first.
Beckham, who was making his first public appearance in Southern California since returning from his five-month loan with Italian club AC Milan, said he had not spoken to Donovan, who called him a bad captain and portrayed him as stingy in an upcoming book "The Beckham Experiment," written by Grant Wahl.
"It's unprofessional in my eyes. In every soccer player's eyes throughout the world it would be unprofessional to speak out about a teammate especially in the press and not to your face," Beckham said.

Would be a might uncomfortable in their dressing room, one would think.

This quote should be "corrected:"

But in 17 years, I have played with the biggest teams in the world and the biggest players and not once have I been criticized for my professionalism. It's important to get this cleared up and I will be speaking to Landon either this evening or over the next couple of days.""Corrected" version:

But in 17 years, I have played with the biggest teams in the world and the biggest players and not once have I been criticized for my professionalism. It's important to get this cleared up and my lawyers will be speaking to Landon's lawyers either this evening or over the next couple of days." :)

San Jose 1 - 3 Toronto FC

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (STATS) -- After watching forward Chad Barrett endure an eight-match scoreless drought, Toronto FC veteran Dwayne De Rosario made a point of checking in with his younger teammate prior to kickoff against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday.

"He's been getting a little down on himself," De Rosario said, "And I'm like, 'Kick that to the curb, because the main thing is you're creating chances. The hard part's finishing.' Today, thankfully, he did it."

"It seems like I've been scoring kind of spontaneously," Barrett said. "Of course I want to put together a run. The good thing is that even though I haven't been scoring, the team's still been doing well."aint that the truth

seems that DeRo has been taking Barrett under his wing to help him develop mentally and it's paying off, the way those two are hooking up offensively

DeRo is the gift that keeps on giving. Maybe he can help Barrett and turn him into a goalscoring machine.

Umm, well, a few goals would be good too :)

Since Barrett's problem is 99% mental (he's physically capable of doing very well in this league), DeRo is helping him where he really needs it.

it'll take an act of god to turn Barrett into a 15 goal scorer

and since DeRo is god, this is very much possible ;)

good to see Barrett finishing off a breakaway for his 2nd goal (he also had a breakaway goal at Dallas)
