Toronto FC not shying away from de Guzman talk
Eric Koreen
When rumours abound in the world of professional sports, the team in question usually falls in to a deep state of silence.
If a player is rumoured to be heading for a club, using that player's name is generally akin to cursing on camera for any member of that club.
Not so with Toronto FC and Julian de Guzman.

Gerba does it again for Canada :canada:
Toronto FC star's goal sinks El Salvador
COLUMBUS, Ohio–Once again, Ali Gerba provided all the offence Canada needed.
Gerba scored in the 32nd minute as Canada remained undefeated at the CONCACAF Gold Cup with a 1-0 victory over El Salvador last night.
El Salvador defender Manuel Salazar misplayed a cross from Canadian captain Paul Stalteri. The ball fell to Patrice Bernier, who sent a low shot on goal.
Gerba redirected the attempt in behind goalkeeper Miguel Montes, quieting the blue-clad, pro-El Salvador crowd with his second match-deciding goal of the tournament.

Canada slips past El Salvador at Gold Cup
CBC.ca
Ali Gerba was again the hero for Canada on Tuesday night, scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 win over El Salvador that virtually guarantees the Canadians a berth in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarter-finals.
The Toronto FC forward scored the winner in the 32nd minute in Columbus, Ohio, quieting the pro-El Salvador crowd.
Canada sits atop Group A with a 2-0 record, and needs only one third-place team in any of the groupings to finish with fewer than six points to advance.

Win over El Salvador puts Canada at 2-0 at Gold Cup
Canwest News Service
Canada's men's soccer team is alone atop Group A at the Gold Cup after a 1-0 win over El Salvador in Columbus, Ohio, on Tuesday night.
Canada has earned the maximum six points through two round-robin games and will complete the group stage Friday against Costa Rica in Miami.
A win or a draw in that match will assure Canada of a spot in the elimination round, but the team could still advance with a loss if the other results go their way.

1st of all:D. Update: Damn you Kingpin!

2nd hot sunshine girl, Grrrrrrrr!<3:hump:

3rd there was talk of fatigue from all the travelling the players had to do in the Gold Cup Tournament, due to venues being so far apart even though the tournament is being held in U.S.A.

It was very hard to watch the players play so sluggish, but in the end Canada barely did enough to secure the win. Gerba was in the right place at the right time. Good for him. I wonder why Jacovik was passed up by TFC. Shocking that TFC is offering $3 million per season for JDG, even though he's worth it, I don't think Mo johnston has a clue about what he's doing.

$100 000 that his former club(Red Star Belgrade) asked for him might be one of the reasons.
I wonder why he was past by TFC last year,he is from Etobicoke, they saw him play and he signed with Red Star last July, why TFC did not picked him before he went to Europe?

Mornin D,

Scooter, Gerba will only do wonders for us if we feed him properly. After watching the game last night its a conclusion i had come to, IF we go de Guzman, being fed from him and dero and guevara we would be unstoppable up front...

Hart is doing well again as CMNT coach. He doesn't have the pedegree, but he has a keen footballing mind. I'd like to see him stay on for the next round of WC qualifying.

Before? He probably would have turned it down before if he knew he was getting offers from clubs like Red Star.

The real question is, why didn't we pick him up when he was coming BACK from Red Star?

Wikked match last night.

We OWNED them, and deserved the result.

Was nice to see Crew Stadium . . with people in it. . . . .all in blue shirts. . . watching our boys school them.

GERBA _ JDG _ = FUTURE LEGENDS OF TFC

Do people expect Mo to be able to sign every half decent Canadian out there?

Jakovic, Hainault, Johnson... I wonder who's going to be next Canadian Euro reject coming back to MLS

ya.. and Johnson's rights were with Chicago, and Chicago dilly-dallied around on the Barrett thing (hard feelings there I remember) so little chance of getting Johnson there. the other 2 were on discovery claims, so we couldn't get em. You get a handful of claims every year, so they have to be used wisely.. maybe TFC had discoveries on better players. and they expire. For all we know, TFC could have had Hainault and Jakovic on discoveries last year (as was Gerba) but couldn't make a deal, so other teams take notice and make a claim. That's exactly what happened with Gerba. TFC made a claim last year, but it didn't come to fruition. San Jose grabbed it after it expired, and then made the deal.

I would assume canadian team + TFC fans would not want all these guys on TFC. For one, you'd lose your whole middle defense and part of the midfield during callup periods. More importantly for the nats, these guys are all geting chances to play elsewhere.. first team play. under different coaches, different styles. Not a bad thing.

Money is also an issue. Jakovic and Hainault are making pretty decent coin for guys who have never played in MLS. I'm not sure what the cap situation was like when those 2 were in negotiation with MLS for DC and Houston.

haha.. one last point.. i think we already have the best young Canadian defender of the three: Nana.

he's 3 years younger and from what I've seen is as good as them if not better. Faster, stronger... just as good sense of the game.. and key point: cheap.. at least for now.
