There's the UEFA coefficient rankings, but they only look at European based leagues and rank them.

yeah, I can only find those. I'm certain that I saw a long list of world leagues that was more than a guy on bigsoccer posting a list but was still not issued by a MAJOR organization I don't think.

The rankings are based on inter-league play in tournaments like the UEFA Cup, Champions League etc. without any inter-league play (ie teams from South America don't play in any tournaments vs. European teams) it's impossible to rank the leagues.

Club World Cup!

But yea ... that tourny is tiny and doesnt mean much to the European teams ... I wish they would expand it ... make it like the World Cup ... 32 teams in 8 groups and have it run every 4 years ...

since the late 90s till 2007 I think. The eventually merged it with the Toyota Cup, that used to be between the UEFA champion and the South American champion iirc

Maybe every 4years is too long since teams and contracts come and go... Bi-yearly perhaps?

How long's it been in Japan for? Seems like it's always there...

yeah, that's the list I saw. What a giant bunch of horseshit, which hugely contradicts all the individual rankings done by the federations.

La Liga ranked 4th? I don't need to see anything else, these rankings are based on horseshit.

^Seconded.

As has been said, there are the UEFA league coefficients, but even those are by no means an empirical judge of which league is better than another.

I think the FIFA video games are a pretty good indication, there is definately some ranking there.

I would rank MLS at par with leagues like Greece, Turkey, Belgium, Romania, Serbia, Norway, Sweden, etc. I consider La Liga, Premiere League and Serie A first level, then France, Germany and Portugal second, so the ones above would be third. I don't think a comparison with England's Championship is fair, as MLS is the the top league in North America.

i saw somewhere some sort of ranking leagues in Europe from few years ago. i Remember England, Spain and Italy were rated the top 3 Leagues. Followed by Germany 4th, France 5th and Holland 6th.

ya that ranking seems way off. Its like sometimes the ranking of the National team rankings. They often give teams points by how many wins they have in a year and such. But the thing is some countries have easier groups to play in then others so its easy for them to get lots of points compared to some other countries.

They probably do it the same through national club tournamnets. And tho i actually love watching the Argentina league, i dont think its the 3rd best league in the world. England, Spain, Italy, Germany would probably take the 4 best leagues in the world. Europe clubs just has to much money!
