Carson, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Galaxy acquired forward Alecko Eskandarian from Chivas USA in exchange for allocation money and a conditional pick in the 2009 draft, the Major League Soccer clubs announced on Wednesday.
"This move allows us greater flexibility in terms of our roster and salary budget," Chivas USA coach Preki said. "We would like to thank Alecko for his contributions to our club. We wish him the best."
The 26-year-old forward has 28 goals and 12 assists in 122 games during his seven-year MLS career. Eskandarian started his professional career with D.C. United after being drafted first overall in 2003. After spending four years in the district, he was traded to Toronto FC in 2006. He was then traded to Real Salt Lake the next season for a brief stint before being acquired by the Goats in 2008.
To make room for Eskandarian on their roster, the Galaxy have terminated the contract of 25-year-old midfielder Josh Tudela.
