Toronto get much-needed time off

TORONTO -- A few days after the kids have gotten out of school, Toronto FC are off on their own (much shorter) version of summer vacation. TFC's next match isn't until July 11, giving the team a full two weeks between games and a bit of an opportunity to regroup and take stock of the first half of the MLS season.

Reds play Puerto Rico Islanders at BMO Field on July 29
Toronto FC announced Tuesday ticket information for the up-coming CONCACAF Champions League Preliminary round match-up against the USL's Puerto Rico Islanders. The preliminary stage will be a home and away match-up with the first leg to be played in Toronto at BMO Field on Wednesday, July 29, at 8 p.m. The return leg will be played on Tuesday, August 4 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Gerba scores twice in 3-0 victory over Guatemala in tuneup for Gold Cup

Ali Gerba scored two goals as Canada’s men’s soccer team defeated Guatemala 3-0 Tuesday in a tuneup for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Patrice Bernier added one more for Canada, which used the game to prepare ahead of Friday’s Gold Cup opener against Jamaica.
Despite playing without veterans Dwayne De Rosario, Jim Brennan and Lars Hirschfeld, Canada interim coach Stephen Hart was pleased with the lineup that includes nine players making their Gold Cup debut.
