I thought Poz can play all 3 defensive positions...

Wonder how much cap money this is going to cost

Also, was Poz's MLS rights part of Garcia deal too?

Poz was in Chivas after SJ.....don't know how it works. Did Chivas release him, or is he still their property?

I don't think so, he played for Chivas after San Jose so if anything his rights would be held by them. But I doubt anything like that applies since he was released and/or he's not a returning US player so the allocation order doesn't come into play.

But I'm psyched about this if it's true, I loved Poz and the versatility he brought. And as much as Harmse was a better player than I thought he was when he first came to TFC, Pozniak is a better player, IMHO.

I also wonder how much he'll cost...and his #13 is available since Smith left.

P.S. Also loved that commercial!

While I can't confirm that he will rejoin TFC, Pozniak has left Dundee FC:

While Kerr was arriving there was a departure from the playing staff today - Canadian midfielder Chris Pozniak leaving the Club. We'd like to thank Chris for his efforts in Dark Blue and to wish him good luck, both in the forthcoming Gold Cup tournament for his country and in his future career.

Dumped is a little strong. He was taken from Toronto in the expansion draft, and I believe there was a little surprise at that from TFC. He was traded by San Jose in exchange for a striker that was expected to bolster San Jose's weak offence at the time (Cunliffe). In May 2008, he ended up in Vancouver before signing with Dundee for what appeared to be a hefty raise.

Is he a gamebreaker? No, but he is probably a little bit better rounded than Harmse for the utility role here.

First off, the Brennan/Poz BMO commercial is still the best they ever made; and secondly, I would love to see Poz back and playing for Toronto. He had good hustle and according to Brennan got along great with everyone on the team. If the captain is vouching for him, then I say we give him another shot.

And yeah, Toronto didn't dump Pozniak. They simply left him unprotected in the San Jose expansion draft. They probably didn't feel there was going to be a big chance he would be picked up by the Earthquakes but I guess they gambled and lost.

The fact that he was picked by San Jose in the expansion draft is a good thing it shows he is actually a good player and Chivas traded to get him. He was never dumped by Toronto or San Jose! He played well and started for Chivas so who knows what happened there and then suddenly he was playing for Dundee. The guy is a good player and TFC can use him right now as he is just on the Canada reserve squad along with Gbeke and Stamatopolous.

If adding players that are released by other teams is your 5 year plan and picking up a salary dump from San Jose in Garcia is going to turn this team around, good luck.WE need to replace some of our starters with people who know how to defend or score goals .It looks like we released players with know plan in place.Poz is a good utility player that has not been able to stick with a MLS team.I quess there is know big CB signing or consistant striker.I hope Gerba bags a shitload of goals because we sure give up enough

Has anyone heard what his pricetag will be?

Harmse was overpriced for what he brought to the table, but I'd say 35,000 more than Harmse would be about what I'd say is reasonable for that improvement (although I'm obviously hoping it will be less expensive than that)

On a side note: I really hope we don't have to see Velez again. Everytime people hope for improvement out of him, he lets us down...
...I am extremely happy we can now have poz in there...

Next step: Releasing Velez + bringing back Rosenlund

I said it before, and I'll say it again...
We had 3 solid, reasonably priced bench players, that were often overlooked... and it turned into three of the stupidest decision's Mo's made IMO:

-Poz (left exposed)
-Rosenlund (always outperformed Harmse on the pitch, yet for some reason always overlooked for him)
-Hemming (our best defender finishing out the 07 season... never given the chance in 08 when Velez was brought in and let us down)

Should never have been overlooked on the depth chart in the first place

Ossington Mental Youth

i dont see how or why we would rid of velez a defender (cb/rb) and bring in Rosenlund (midfielder/attacking mid) would help. Dont get me wrong, i like Rosenlund alot, he had great placement and speed (shit finishing) but he wouldnt help us out on defense.

Ossington Mental Youth

samething with Hemming, i liked Hemming but he wanted regular football AND was a midfielder. Hes not going to get played over Robinson or Cronin, as a result he will want out again.

samething with Hemming, i liked Hemming but he wanted regular football AND was a midfielder. Hes not going to get played over Robinson or Cronin, as a result he will want out again.

I realize he's mainly played MF, but like i said before, (I hate having to repeat myself), HE FINISHED THE 2007 SEASON AS OUR BEST DEFENDER,

Yes, Unlike Jimmy B, he was actually good at defending when bumped from MF to D...

Rosenlund played that defensive MF role, but was overlooked for Harmse (again repeating myself....why don't people read initial posts?) - and was solid in the time he played....
...he also was able to play a sort of attacking/distributing MF role a couple times (sort of like Amado) and again was solid with his ball control/distribution)

Hemming would be highly unlikely to return,
But Rosenlund never complained about starting time, he was simply released over the king of stink (Harmse)

The problem isn't them needing to start,
They weren't even getting a look of the bench, with some ridiculous players getting action ahead of them...

I'm sure if we gave them a better shot at playing off the bench they'd take it,

The way I see it now our Depth chart on the bench (varying according to starting XI) is:

D - Nana -> Poz -> Velez -> Gomez -> Gala -> Sanyang
MF (D) - Poz
MF/Wing (attacking) - Barrett ->Fuad ->
FW - Dichio -> White -> Barrett ->

That MF deplth is kinda scary (Since realistically Chad + Fuad are strikers), and Cronin is now on the USMNT radar - so could get calls in the future, thereby leaving us a gap

Velez is an overpaid liability (albeit not to the extent Cunny/Ruiz...etc were), and now has 2 guys above him in the depth chart
-He's definately Cuttable.... Especially in lieu of the fact we have to eventually give the young kids playing time

Lucky Strike

You must think quite a lot of him to label him our best defender with him having played less than 3 matches worth of minutes (239 to be exact). I wonder how many of those 239 he played in defence rather than his usual midfield.

I like Poz ands I like Harmse; for my money, Harmse is slightly better than Pozi - nothing to really get excited about, anyways

Hemming finished the season as our best defender in season 1? I didn't realize a couple games on defense was enough to judge a player. Also, Jimmy B was our best defender in Season 1. Todd Dunivant was better than Hemming in season 1. Tyrone Marshall was better than Hemming in season 1. Marvell Wynne was better than Hemming in season 1.

anyhow, that 2007 team had the worst defense in the league. So even to suggest a player was the best defender on a shit team isn't saying much, whoever it is.

Rosenlund wasn't even wanted by Vancouver... he's now on trial with montreal from what I've heard. It's one thing to criticize TFC for dumping players... but when lesser teams pass as well, what does that tell you?

Rosenlund and Hemming were good cheap backups on weak teams, if they wanted to play that role. But they aren't getting any younger and I wouldn't call them prospects. On good teams, these guys probably don't get on the bench. No real loss there.

You must think quite a lot of him to label him our best defender with him having played less than 3 matches worth of minutes (239 to be exact). I wonder how many of those 239 he played in defence rather than his usual midfield.

Sorry, I understand how that last quote couldh've been taken out of context, which a few of you clearly did,

I'll refer back to my first quote in rephrasing it to avoid such silly confusion (nobody in their right mind would claim a 3 game player is a best defender for the entirety of the year):

Hemming was the best defender we had on the field closing out the 07 season

Not only that,

I would go on to say those final games, he was the best player on the pitch for us

Now that doesn't say much seeing our team... but still doesn't explain why he wasn't given a fair shake to start the 2008 season,

Carver came in, and just went straight to Velez...
...look how great that turned out for us

It's a wonder how Nana stayed with us so long to put up with our crap...
He shouldh've been starting ages ago... it's not like he's magically been improving,
From the first time we saw him, he showed us he was starter-worthy.....

And yet he festered on our bench for a long time... Not even getting on as a sub,
He got overlooked for Todd frickin' Dunivant!!!

Let me say that again,
Carver chose Dunivant over Nana

How many people now would honestly say they'd prefer Dunivant over Nana now after what he's showed us since he was actually GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO START?

-Poz (left exposed)
-Rosenlund (always outperformed Harmse on the pitch, yet for some reason always overlooked for him)
-Hemming (our best defender finishing out the 07 season... never given the chance in 08 when Velez was brought in and let us down)

completely agree.

especially hemming!!! but after we waived him and then later resigned him, didnt he want to leave or something?

love how he set up dichio's goal in the last game of the season.

Should never have been overlooked on the depth chart in the first place

Not quite what it might seem like. Who would have expected a team like San Jose use an international spot on a player like Pozniak? Leaving him exposed shouldn't have been a risk - normally a team would take something other than a utility player with an international slot. It seems his role in San Jose was as a placeholder until a better international could come along.

And I disagree about Hemming getting a chance in 08 too. Hemming was given the opportunity but did not play up to the same level as others (including Velez) - he played in preseason games and got into a handful of games in Toronto. Leaving the team was his choice - he wasn't going to be a starter here, so he believed it better to find a starting role elsewhere. Best of luck to him, but the way he left, immediately before the Chivas debacle last year, left a bad taste in my mouth. Glad to see he's a regular in Charleston.

And your left with:

Marco "63.5 grand" Velez...

The man whom hemming was overlooked for in the first place...

(SIDENOTE: did you see when he came on last game. The first thing that happened the ball fell right to him with nobody on him, so he pulled a Braz and booted it directly out of bounds)

Velez came from the USL, and the greater majority of the time he's played with us, he's played like he belongs back in the USL...
Started out good those first 3-5 games with us, and has been an eyesore ever since....

I wouldn't say preseason classifies a fair-shake either, as it's not a real game situation (something Hemming proved he was solid in finishing out the 07 season)...

Again, this all boils down to the fact they are bench players...

You ask me who i'd rather have on my bench:
Poz (at anything under $110,000) over Harmse (was a $79,000 contract)
Rosenlund over Hemming (their 07 was $17,000, but i'm guessing they'd be at under $50,000 on the senior roster) over Velez (at $63,500 contract)

considering Hemming never played CB, how do you compare him with Velez?

Did Dunivant ever start on the right (or even in the centre) of our defence? If I recall correctly he was a left back/mid with him and Jimmy working nicely together switching back and forth.

I don't think it's "next week" yet. Probably still too early.

He's on my ignore and I had the misfortune of stumbling across this.

Hemming played defence for us in exactly one game, at right back. He was unspectacular, and was much better -- quite good actually -- in pre-season last year at his regular right mid. He's a decent role player. He's not quick enough or creative enough to be a long-term starter.

USL is probably a very good fit for him, but if we needed bench depth, we could do a lot worse than either him or Rosenlund (who I still believe had serious, serious potential and was overlooked).

If Poz is coming back then we've upgraded from Harmse.

Poz is a good depth player and someone I would like to see back with the Reds, he brings some good things to the table and that is what TFC needs, I would welcome him back any day.

I don't see what the big deal is, I always thought Harmse was slightly better than Poz; especially on the physical side of play. I can't say I'm ecstatic with this move... I like Poz, but I feel like they could have done better to be honest.

I would rather have Rosenlund or Hemming than Pozniak.
