The Islanders seem to be better than Vancouver and Montreal so far. They haven't gone down in play following the champions league like Montreal has.

MLS does have a stream. 19.99 for full year.

Most games are live, but some aren't due to blackout issues. All games archived. still worth 20 bucks

Its still 20 buks.
If its only 20, why not just make it free.
A gift to the fans.

If im a casual fan of MLS, im sure not going to pay.
But free, people will be inclined to check it out

Roogsy

USL makes it free.

If the MLS were smart, they would make the streams free but have imbedded advertising. That way, not only would US fans catch the league, but they may also pick up international viewers. Good for advertisers, good for the league's exposure.

But usually what happens is that the beancounters only look at the immediate dollar benefits, and not future benefits that can't be valued.

I didn't have a PVR at the start of the season, and wasn't sure about my schedule or if games on GolTV would be aired. So i picked up the Match Center Subscription, and it's nice as I can go back and watch games at my convenience, I think it's way better then a free stream. I do wish it was more like MLB subscription like my brother has, where you have replay functionality, and near HD quality. or even iphone/iPod Touch apps. Not cost effecive for them yet to do, but the Match center stuff is great.

I'll have to check out the game tonight, I'm worried about this game with the state of the squad right now... we need midfielders.

the answer is quite simple why they called them the P.R. ISLANDERS ..

Seriously no offence to the non spanish speaking but hearing an American speaking in spanish hurts the ears alot.. (horrible prounciation) :hide:

I think they just opted to make the "gringos" "yanks" happy by just calling it island

Well the entire story is that PR was seaded in the semifinals so they knew they only had to win one game to qualify so they did and then just half ass the final o and USL 1 games that are being showned through FSC live arnt showned on USL live.

If they drive the same way in which drive throughout the rest of Latin America but have the infrastructure of North America, I can see it being easily possible.
Google says:
Driving directions to Bayamón, Puerto Rico / Estadio / Stadium
27.2 km – about 24 mins from the airport though. (won't add the directions here but just to give an idea.

It depends. I've heard some native English speakers get the accent down VERY well. But these are people that actually do try to improve their accent. Sadly they are a minority though!

And Puerto Rico is Spanish. Means "rich port" in English. In case anyone was wondering.

well looking at the standings and the play, and the results. PRI seems to be of good quality, but so long as we give it our all, and just show up for the friendly. Then we have a good chance of beating them by a decent margin.

True. I'd just assumed it was torrent based without thinking about the mechanics.

So it's like veetle, a video host. Doesn't matter. Same fear. After close to 30 years on computers, I've had my share of shitty background noise that causes problems; anyone who's dealt with some of the loverly side effects of Hot Spot can tell you that.

Charleston played a crafty game play, relying on very organized defending to keep PRI from creating chances. Also sought to counterattack at every chance and use possession to keep PRI at bay.

Puerto Rico played a direct approach, using long ball and crosses at every opportunity. Very little in terms of build up. Used high pressure to keep opposition from creating chances and keeping possession.
PRI defence was ok, but nothing really spectacular. Was beaten a few times by effective Charleston counterattacks.

I see no reason why TFC can't beat PRI easily.

Despite having most of the possession from late 1st to mid 2nd half, very few chances were created by PRI due to lack of build up in play and using possession to move the ball around. Their most potent offence came from set pieces which they showed some strength.

As long as TFC don't succumb to PRI pressure and move the ball around, be organized at the back to stop long balls and set pieces and be patient in breaking down PRI defence, we should win. PRI looked vulnerable to counterattacks. TFC players are individually way more talented, so make PRI chase the ball and expose them on counters

Deffo need a two goal cushion going to San Juan, as Aug game in tropics will take physical toll on our players

After that analysis, I don't understand why you'd dismiss them like that. Look at their play earlier this year in the CCL, and tonight and I see a side that is perfectly capable of tripping us up in a 2 leg series. We have had this 'should win, individually more talented' refrain before in our NCC competitions and it just isn't working like that.

Thanks for the breakdown

I'd be a bit more wary, though. Depends which TFC shows up; the desperate, tough-as-nails TFC from Montreal, or the doggin' it, distracted version.

Or the third version: the cruisers, who dominate play but can't score, and are prone to digging deep holes as a result. We've had a few 1-0 wins that should have been easier, and could have turned out a lot worse.

I am not going to dismiss them nor should anyone, they have strong play attacking, and we have a sub par back line as a whole. We give away too many goals. Add to that us having a busy schedule and a rested PRI, and we are in for a tough series. I think we are capable but we need to work for it.

I think if we have Attakora Garcia Serioux and Wynne on the back, With Robbo and Brennen in a Defensive Mid role... we should be ok. particularly with DeRo and Guevera helping out, and Gerba and Barrett up front, should do the trick. The Four of them should be capable of strong counters and the 6 working the back should hold them tight... with luck...

Like last night. Could've done better; DeRo's enthusiasm was infectious enough to keep it from falling apart, but we trod pretty lethargic ground at times.

I'm not dismissing them out of hand.

However, it's clear to me that TFC is better team, given that the lads play their game.

As long as the lads are mentally in the game, I didn't see anything really good out of PRI that we should be shitting our pants

good luck with those long balls for your strikers to chase down. and your team doesn't have a target striker to win the ball in the air. at least, none that I saw. actually, your CB Krause did win some balls in the air on offence after being subbed in but then again, he's suppose to be a defender, not a striker...

Your basing your analysis of our team on one game agaisnt the strongest and most organise defence in the league which we already beat twice before. I have actually seen your team play all season and the season before Im well aquainted with it and yeah I admit its gonna be hard but nothing we havent face before in this competition.

If we dont face them earlier its definatly going to be a Islanders vs Charleston final this year.

Making myself clear I respect your team and i think its gonna be a hell of a series with no clear winner, until it happens.

this is true

but honestly. your lads must have had like 55% of possession and pretty much dominated from the time charleston scored and till about mid 2nd half and I really didn't see much from PRI in terms of offence

Charleston's defence was good. but if you have the ball, and can't pass it around to try to break down the defence but end up doing like 2 passes and throw a long ball, how do you expect to beat teams that have good defence?

who is in your team that is a playmaker?

I saw the last half and I have to agree... TFC are the better team HOWEVER PR was the most aggresive in the 2nd half and I could see us getting caught and getting beat by them...

any team can beat any team at any given time... look at the USA beating Spain.

TFC is obviously the favourite given that we have some players who are clearly better than anything PRI have: De Ro and Guevara. Of course on any given night anything can happen depending on effort and concentration. Who knows about injuries too... But at least this is the second attempt at a run in Champions League by PRI, so maybe it's old hat to them ;) Montreal seemed a bit disinterested this year, with a Champions League hangover.

Plus our secret weapon is Marco Velez ;) He knows the coach well enough to spill some secrets. ;)

while this may be just me talking out of my ass, but the high pressure PRI puts on while on defence causes opposition to make mistakes, and pounce on it.

Hemming was victim of two of these high pressure tactics by PRI which led to PRI chances.

That strategy work well last two games, passing game is not gonna work when Charleston crowds their area with so many boddies, we tried that the first game for most of the game and almost dint win.

Steele and Noah are our playmakers.

You should be looking at the strategy we use more in the CCL last year which was geared to stop the stronger team we faced and depended more on the counter for attack. It should be very similer this year last, last year we did the same thing play very offensively in the league and the more conservative in the CCL.

Exactly- we all know Home and Away knockout football (with the Away goal rule) is addressed differently by teams.

(So I am agreeing with the PR supporter over my own guy - in terms of approach to the game-ahah).

wow.. that's worse than TFC's.. they are on the road for the whole month of July. including games at Montreal (19th), at Portland (23rd), and at Vancouver (25th).

If not for the River Plate friendly, TFC would just have a game a week during that stretch.

USL is a physical league heat has nothing to do with it jeje Talking about heat I have been to games where temp here was like 100 F, july and august are our hottest months, thats one of the reasons we have big away trips during these times. I even heard of players fainting in practices cause Clarke runs them to hard during the afternoon heat. But afternoon games arnt very common anymore so it usually dosnt get that hot during games anymore.

On schedule congestion nobody had it worst than us last year that why Clarke build a pretty deep team this year to prevent player from getting to exhausted. Its actually better that where not playing on the island this month the Sahara Dust Clouds have hit the island this week and the air quality could pose a danger to athletes.
