Blowout or bust for Toronto FC
T.O. needs to rack up big score against Montreal tonight to win first title
Daniel Girard
Two years ago yesterday, Toronto FC scored its biggest victory in team history – a 4-0 thumping of FC Dallas at BMO Field.
A repeat is what's required tonight in Montreal as TFC closes out the Canadian Championship against the Impact.
A win by at least four goals gives TFC its first trophy, the Voyageurs Cup, and a place in the CONCACAF Champions League against the top teams in North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

Impact short-handed for tilt with TFC
Montreal missing key contributors as it looks to play spoiler in the Canadian Championship finale
Sean Gordon
It seems an unlikely hill to conquer in a season where so much has gone wrong for Toronto FC: routing the Montreal Impact by at least four goals – on Montreal’s home field – to snatch a last-gasp berth in the CONCACAF Champions League.
It might not look quite as imposing now.
Impact head coach Marc Dos Santos says his focus is on Saturday’s United Soccer Leagues clash with the Vancouver Whitecaps, not today’s tilt with TFC in a competition from which Montreal has already been eliminated.

TFC must get really offensive
LANCE HORNBY (lance.hornby@sunmedia.ca)
Toronto FC will be going into tonight's road game against the Montreal Impact down four goals before it starts and still without Canadian international forward Ali Gerba.
Director of soccer Mo Johnston had hoped to announce Gerba's signing this week, with an eye to perhaps playing him in the key Nutrilite Canadian Championship game before the final rosters had to be in Tuesday.

Toronto waives Ricketts and Smith
Associated Press
TORONTO -- Toronto FC has come to an agreement to terminate the contract of midfielder Rohan Ricketts.
Ricketts, from England, had four goals and four assists in 27 games last season for the club after signing in April, but this season had found himself mostly on the bench.
He appeared in 12 games in 2009 but only three as a starter. He had no goals or assists in 316 minutes.

that sun article sorta suggests that a) Gerba wont be playing for us Tonight and b) that he might not be playing in the MLS until next month

Is there some sort of bonus clause that kicks in when players have played 40 games for TFC? First Sutton out after 39, and the same number for Ricketts. Hmmmmm.......

God, Blatter is a fucking moron.

Garber should tell him, 'sure, we'll go to the Int'l calender, as long as FIFA subsidized MLS for all the empty stadiums, player sickness and general shitiness of the league every Nov - Mar.

Apparently Blatter believes we play March to October because we all play in North American Football Stadiums?

Excluding the fact that most MLS teams have their own stadiums, when does he think NFL/CFL games are played?

And I love this:
"They know it. I spoke several times on this item, more than 10 years ago when I was [FIFA] secretary general. Nothing has changed in the USA (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/United+States).

If he is referring to the climate, then he is absolutely right...nothing has changed in the USA in more than 10 years.

What a twit!

YES,they are.

There are leagues in countries like Russia,Sweden.Norway etc, that have fucked up winter as we do.

Russian Premier league with 16 teams started on March 14 and will end up on Nov.29.
Swedish League 16 teams starting in March and ending in October.

They have they leagues being played from Feb/March until November and those leagues still follow FIFA International calendar.

I Wonder how they can do it and bush league like MLS can't?

?

why would you want that tho?

I hated all those cold shitty games we had in March and April.

I enjoyed myself less in that weather. It also made the quality of play worse.

Also, Russian league attendances are worse than MLS. I wonder why?? ;)
