He was released by a level 3 league team in England and he's had more clubs than hot dinners in the last 9 years.

I believe MK Dons see themselves as capable of getting into the Championship next year (having lost in the playoffs after finishing third in their first year of League 1). They may not have released so many players if they finished mid-table, but they could be looking players that will take them to the next level.

(In other words, they see Gerba as a League 1 player, but not a Championship player.)

Ali Gerba = Conor Casey minus the jumping. Big, strong, deceptively quick release on his shot, great in-box positioning and good at scooping up junk but is poor in the air for someone of his size (can't jump, but can get an accurate head on the ball.)

I'm still not sure why Dons released him. He had their best strike rate and his overall strike rate since 2004 is about 1-in-2.9.

He had some sour years in Scandinavia but my understanding is he rarely got starting time, so his goal record is deceptive. Same was true when he went to Dons, and they declared him unfit for the first six weeks or so that he was there. Once he'd dropped a little weight, he was in and out of the lineup but scored some really nice goals. 10-in-24 when half of those are sub appearances is pretty friggin' good.

I predict he'll do well at MLS level, finish with between six and 10 goals this year.

This deal is more complicated than a simple trade or signing. The Ricketts situation probably is slowing things down.. First they have to waive him, then make an agreement with another club (presumably overseas) and get that finalized and confirmed, and THEN approve/finalize the Gerba signing. Anything involving international clubs and transfers takes a lot longer.

Giambac, I've tried to explain this to people at various times, and it never works. But for you I'll try again

A scenario with 2 options has a 50/50 chance of working out a certain way. 1) Carver is good, 2) Carver is bad. Proof of this is 2 actions. 1) Carver stays, or 2) Carver goes. So basically, theres 2 sets of 50/50 probabilities to be taken into account. So if you have a 50/50 chance the first time, followed by a 50/50 chance the second time, you'd have a theoretical 25% chance of being right. But the action isn't the important part of the equation. Thats where a lot of people fuck up. Its the WHY that leads to the action thats important. You can be dead on right, but in the end be wrong, or vice versa, because of this. You may have gotten the action right, but the why was wrong. Simply because you were trigger happy in declaring failure, and using poor logic as your argument.

Think about it like this, you're at a fork in the road in cottage country with 100 other people who all got there independantly. 1 road goes to town, the other goes to the dump. Arbitrarilly guessing the right road isn't all that difficult, the more impressive part is how you got there in the first place.

Hopefully that made some sense. if it didn't, blame Gerba

Jloome, but those probabilities are based on circumstance. I was only talking about the most basic probabilities that'd work for ANY scenario. My point though, was that the variable in the Carver case was time and success on the field. He came to his decision before the variable played out. So if you aren't waiting for variables and just arbitrarilly making a decision, then it is 50/50. I'm either stopping for Pizza on my way to class this afternoon or I'm just going straight to class.
