TFC looks to tighten up on defence
Garcia should help
Eric KoreenOver the last two weeks, Toronto FC has taken three jabs square in the jaw.
A 3-0 loss in Houston; a 2-0 loss in Vancouver; a 2-1 loss to the Galaxy a week ago today at BMO Field. Facing a road-heavy second half of the regular season, TFC should be on the verge of some sort of collapse.
Newly acquired defender Nick Garcia, one would think, should help lighten that load.
"You guys look like the mafia," Garcia cracked as he met with the Toronto media on Thursday.

TFC throwing Garcia right into the Bulls' path
10-year MLS veteran expected to stabilize defence as Toronto looks to end losing slide
Daniel Girard
Much of the hand-wringing amongst Toronto FC fans this season has revolved around a lack of scoring touch in front of the net.
Little wonder. TFC has consistently created good chances but failed to capitalize. For example, the team has just one goal in its current three-game losing streak despite 44 shots, 22 of them on net.

Garcia to bolster TFC midfield
PAUL ATTFIELD
When you have players like Kaka and, most likely, Cristiano Ronaldo, attack can be the best form of defence, and based on Real Madrid's attitude toward signing defenders this off-season, it might just have to be.
But when your striking options are Chad Barrett, Pablo Vitti and Danny Dichio, you may simply have to get better at the back, and while Toronto FC have a couple of months to work out how to contain Madrid's $250-million duo, based on Toronto FC's record thus far – 21 goals conceded is the third worst defensive record in Major League Soccer – there is certainly room for improvement in the here and now.

Red Bulls versus Toronto FC preview
Associated Press
Amidst a logjam of Eastern Conference teams tied with 16 points, Toronto FC has a chance to separate itself from the pack in its next two games.
On Saturday night, Toronto will play the first of two straight home games against the punchless New York Red Bulls, who have yet to score on the road this season.
Toronto (4-5-4) is tied with three other teams for spots three through six in the East. It appears to have a great chance to pick up six points in the next two games with New York (2-9-3), which will also visit BMO Field on June 24.

Getting Bullish
Rescheduled tilt looms as a must-win for TFC
LANCE HORNBY (lance.hornby@sunmedia.ca)
The game that Toronto FC didn't want is now one they must win.
Tonight's 8 p.m. game against the New York Red Bulls suddenly appeared on the MLS schedule late last month, moved up from Aug. 9 to avoid conflict with the friendly against Real Madrid two days earlier.
But TFC needed to catch its breath from three straight losses and many personnel changes, as well as be fresh for next week's game in the Nutrilite Canadian championship in Montreal, needing to go all out for a four-goal win against the Impact or be eliminated.

Reds hope Red Bulls can cure home woes
New York remains winless on the road this season

TORONTO -- Saturday's match between Toronto FC and the New York Red Bulls will be a case of the stoppable force meeting the movable object -- a team that has struggled at home against a team whose struggles on the road have reached historic proportions. "We have two home games against them [in nine days] and we haven't been doing so well at home, so we have to change that since we have a bunch of away games coming up," said TFC striker Chad Barrett. "To tell the truth we need six points out of this. Even though we're both struggling, we have the advantage and home and we need to use it."

Thanks d. Glad to see the press that we are getting, including the positive stuff from the National Post. Gotta give it to them - they've been trying hard since last year!

From TFC looks to tighten up on defence article:

"The team now could play a 3-5-2 easily, because Nicky is very good in a three," Johnston said. "He's an organizer.
"For me, they have the best fans in the league, bar none," Garcia said. "This atmosphere, when I played here with Kansas City, was rabid.
"That's what you need at home."
