Soccer365 has learned that at least one Major League Soccer club has made an initial approach to out-of-contract Villarreal defender Sol Campbell, who rejected Turkish side Trabzonspor this weekend and still has an offer from Swiss power Basel...

No where in this article does it say TFC. I think you should rename the thread.

You're right it should read MLS. TFC could be that MLS team.

Little confusing given Campbell's playing at Portsmouth this last term.

How are Sol Campbell and Villareal connected? Did he holiday there once?

(Still, love to have him here.)

Sol would be a good addition, very qualified and a veteran CB. Bear in mind he's 35 though.

Claudio Suarez. 40 and still playing!

In MLS, you're only old if you're above 35 ;)

I wouldn't mind Campbell signing with TFC, but I think he wants DP money though.

but then everybody will be crying about not using DP on a striker

At this point, I really don't care who they give the DP money to. Just give it to someone who will be a definite improvement over any player on our starting lineup.

A Serioux - Campbell combination would be pretty deadly.
This would be a solid pick up for Mo.
He could then try to unload Barrett on someone for a second DP slot.

seriously? you think someone would trade Barrett for a DP slot?

another thing which pisses me off.....if we aren't using the DP slot for the next year or two.........then TRADE THE DAMN THING!!!

Yes - we should definitely trade the DP slot to other more ambitious clubs who are willing to take a chance at bringing in a big name player. It's a shame to let it go to waste.

seriouly? i hope this is jokes

3 teams have tried that before, the galaxy...did not make the playoffs either year

DC united, where is Gallidino now? and they did not make the playoffs either,

and finally the shite bulls, did Claudio Rena even play a game with Angel?

our team has NO depth, and the answer, spend 800,000 of a 2 million cap on 2 players...

sometimes i dont know why i bother with the site...

As a Tottenham fan, I despise him. That is the reason for my hate filled response. However, he is a good player.
He won't come here though......

This is very true.

Did anyone notice that Sutton and Edwards were both on the bench on Saturday? Two keepers on the bench!@#$

So you Spurs hope. It would mean a large sacrifice from TFC, though. Lots of moves probably.

Why?
Nana has done amazing job,
It can even be argued he's better (right now) than the Vet (Serioux)

....Only logical reasoning behind this would be if doctors opted to shut Nana down for the yr,
If he's just out for a short bit, we only need 1 backup CB

Why not?
Logical reason is that a Sol Campbell type would be a key ingredient in getting Toronto into a playoff drive... unfair to say that about Nana Attakora, whatever his talents
Yes, there are strong anti designated player opinions - but in the east we are competing with 3 teams that have a DP (Chi/NY/DC) and KC just found a way to downgrade theirs.
I agree that Nana has done a superb job, but having a Sol Campbell (or equivalent international quality defender) would not slow the development of TFC young talent, it could enhance. Just because others have used the designated player spot badly does not mean that every opportunity should be rejected..

Who said anything about moving Nana?
In fact I'd give him a starting spot... Wynne's to be exact.
Nana is quicking proving to be a better stay at home defender than Wynne, and IMO we should try to trade Wynne before his stock drops any further. If Mo were able to land Sol.. big if... we could have
Nana - Serioux - Campbell - Brennen across the back.
Wynne could be traded for a forward.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be welcomed... Sure it would.

But MLS is a Salary cap leauge,
and you need to allot your contracts accordingly.

SCORING = problem... BIG problem... Biggest problem,

Spend DP money, then spend it there, not CB.

What good is a bunch of 0-0 draws?

Sure we'd have good defending, but still not being able to score?
How will we win?

Bank on shootouts in playoffs?
No CB can help you there...

The jokes is the CBA expires before the start of next season and you can bet the DP rules will be changing. Secondly this season will be half over and we'd only be taking HALF the DP's hits againest cap.
Know what you're talking about before you start up with the attitude.

If we agree to terms where we state that we'll carry a portion of his salary for the remainder... then yeah.
Ten DP spots floating around across the league for half a season carry almost no value to the teams who have em but aren't gonna use em.

Oh and to further add to my point Yohan... look how we took Ruiz.
He wasen't scoring ethier and he had twice the salary.

difference scenario

we had some salary cap room left, and Ruiz was available to take a chance. And Ruiz didn't cost a DP

You don't think someone else will have 100,000 in cap room left?
Are two supplemental picks worth less than an unused DP slot for half a season?
Sweeten the pot by throwing in Ricketts or Edwards.
Come on Yohan think creatively. :)
