Fans give TFC cold shoulder
Pre-game protest at BMO Field leaves south stands sparse
Lance Hornby
Are Toronto FC’s loyal fans turning on management?
A rift in what’s been a beautiful friendship appeared to be the case this afternoon when many boycotted the start of this afternoon’s match against the Los Angeles Galaxy. They were underlining their feelings about the club’s handling of the Real Madrid exhibition game in August, not to mention a three-game losing streak that was extended in a 2-1 loss to L.A.

'Losing is a bad habit'
TFC in trouble on and off its detested pitch
LANCE HORNBY (lance.hornby@sunmedia.ca)
Troubles keep piling up for Toronto FC, on and off the field.
On top of its controversial handling of the Real Madrid exhibition match, which prompted hundreds of fans to protest yesterday before and after the game against the Los Angeles Galaxy, TFC lost its third game in a row, plus captain Jim Brennan to a twisted ankle, and there is some concern from the dressing room on management's direction the past week.

Lowly Galaxy add to Toronto FC woes
cbc
The Toronto FC again displayed the lack of a finishing touch on Saturday but it was defensive gaffes that led to their downfall in a 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Toronto (4-5-4) never led in the game at BMO Field. Danny Dichio scored his second of the season in the 64th minute to draw the Toronto even, but Edson Buddle haunted his old club with the winning goal 13 minutes later.

Toronto FC's offence lacking polish
Club comes up short to visiting L.A. Galaxy despite once again outshooting opposition
Daniel Girard
Toronto FC coach Chris Cummins came to his post-game news conference clutching the official scoresheet as proof of his side's shot margin over the Los Angeles Galaxy.
"A lot of chances – again," Cummins said. "I just looked: 18 of them, 11 on target, and we haven't finished. I'm starting to sound like a broken record, aren't I?"

Late goal sinks TFC
Paul Attfield
The warning signs were there all afternoon, but it took a Toronto FC old boy to hammer the message home.
Edson Buddle, who plied his trade for TFC in their inaugural season in 2007, provided the winning margin in the 77th minute as the Los Angeles Galaxy stretched their unbeaten run to 10 games with a 2-1 win at BMO Field Saturday.

Buddle buries former 'mates
THE CANADIAN PRESS
TORONTO -- For Los Angeles Galaxy striker Edson Buddle, it's always special to score a game-winning goal.

But as a former Toronto FC player, he was especially pleased to lift his team to victory at Toronto's BMO Field.

TFC can't capitalize on chances against Galaxy
Eric KoreenTORONTO -- Toronto FC coach Chris Cummins was conscious of it. If you follow TFC, you could not help but be conscious of it.
"Eighteen attempts, one goal again," Cummins said after looking at the stat sheet from TFC's 2-1 loss on Saturday to the Los Angeles Galaxy. "Listen, I sound like a record, don't I?"

[B]TFC can't end the skid
Loses 2-1 against Galaxy Saturday afternoon
By Mark Polishuk
TORONTO -- Another game, another double-digit shot total ... and unfortunately for Toronto FC, another loss. As has been the case so often this season, a lack of finishing doomed the Reds, in this case to a 2-1 defeat at the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday at BMO Field.

When the game was about to get underway, the stands were filled, but a large black bordered banner was unfurled that read ‘4 Teams, 0 Titles’, a shot at Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd.’s winless hockey, basketball and soccer properties.

:drum:

When we held it up, some douche from the top of 113 came down and said "And you guys call yourselves supporters?" I had a laugh. The guy didn't even know what the banner said.

First roadwin for Los Angeles in almost a year. Wow!

DP striker and grass is our only hope.

7 home games and 10 away games left to play this season. Right now we're out of the play-offs if you look at the table. Question is: will 10 away games and only 7 home games be able to change our fate and bring us back into a play-off spot?

It's hard to have faith in the team these days. Next game is definitely a MUST WIN!!!

After the Vancouver loss, I pointed to our precarious position on the table and the likelihood of losing a playoff spot.

At this rate, the same thing will happen as last year, by the end of August, we will be out of the running for a playoff spot.

Not only that, but we need defenders and wingers as well. This team has too many holes. Mo better be working on bringing in players ASAP.

The MAIN problem is the lack of goals. We had 16 shots on goal in Vancouver, and yet we didn't score. Pretty much the same yesterday - except for of course Dichio's goal. We don't need wingers. We don't need defenders. We need someone who can score - that's all. Yes, improvements would be appreciated across the board, but the only thing that is going to change this club is if we bring someone in who is able to capitalize on the massive wealth of chances we have each game. And that's a DP striker. Problem is that he won't be coming unless we get grass. So #1 is to get grass. THEN the striker will follow. THEN we make the play-offs.

Pretty simple. Wish FO felt the same way.

Well with only 5 home games left and only 3 left after June (July being when transfer window opens) woundn't it (in theory) be easier to get someone to come over based on the fact he'd only have to play a few games on turf?

Just a thought.

Plus we'd only take the half season ($200,000) cap hit as a result. The timing is perfect, is it not?

Edit: Sorry 7 home games...read wrong

Actually we have 7 home games left. 2 in June. 1 in July. 1 in August. 1 in September. 2 in October. But yes - getting a DP player would be great, but without grass we're not likely to attract a quality player. Grass comes first - and Tom Anselmi already said that grass won't be coming this season or the next one, but maybe after next season. Maybe.

We could get a DP to play on turf - it would cost more, that's all, but there's no salary cap on DPs.

It could be done tomorrow.

Yes, technically we could probably get any player in the world to come here and play on turf. Money talks. However, MLSE is not likely to spend a dime more than they have to on a player - so I doubt they'll throw some extra cash at a player to convince him to come - when frankly he'd never want to set foot on our fake plastic pitch.

From Ryan Johnston's blog:

Galaxy coach Bruce Arena and I could not ignore the elephant outside any longer, so I explained:

"The noise outside is a fan protest, aimed at a variety of things including the pitch, recent results, the front office, etc."

He looked surprised.

Quite possibly, we need reinforcements and in a hurry... actually we need what we have neeeded since the beginning of the seson... and the beat goes on.
