View Full Version : How did you find this board

I found the RPB boards through the TFC main site.
Checked out the 3 linked message boards (BS, USector and RPB) and this one had the most traffic.

My introduction to real life RPB people was after the 1st ever win. Some really really effeminate guy approached my buddy and I in the bathroom line up and told us to go to shoeless joes for free nachos.

The thread that got closed in the news section had a mention of the origns or growth of this site and thought a poll would be interesting.

Researching Toronto FC news on youtube just after the group got started and saw "Shout out to the redpatch boys" on Italian soccer fanatics clip posted there... Googled and found it.

I joined the boards in late 2006 if I recall. Must have just been looking for TFC news and think this was the first site that had any fan interaction and that was it.

So I guess that counts as another forum?

Haha! So true!

I found out about the RPB's a few weeks before the first season and Techno registered me on the forum about a year before I started posting. I came on the first time because I was bored at work one day.

From the TFC site. After Year 1 Game 1 I saw the passion of the south end and new I had to be a part of it. Not in a "standing in the south end and contributing" sort of a way, but in a prawnier "troll the boards every day and then enjoy my seats way up high in 222 on game day" sort of way.

I once upon a time, wanted to find about off-season transfer rumours between the 2007 and 2008 seasons. I found a good thread on a board which turned out to be Big Soccer. A week later, I wanted to find if there were any updates and one of the newer posts pointed to the RPB forum which had much more traffic and activity. I made the switch and here I am (well, with the previous RPB forum in between, but you know).

Not sure how I ended up there though.
I do know that Parkdale was the first RPB I met.

Kind of thought, if what certain people say is true, there'd be more responses like these. The vast majority of responses are more TFC related than RPB.

Early exit polling is showing that ensco is getting vindicated.

Actually...if that was your purpose...you should have put up a poll on how people became aware of RPB, the group not of RPB the forum. A quick glance at the responses seems to indicate that it was a web search of some form that resulted in people finding the board, whether it be google, another discussion board or the team website. It actually doesn't answer how people came to be aware of the group in the first place, just how they went about finding the internet forum since they obviously came to know of the group beforehand in order to make a search of us.

They came to the U-Sector site and pissed me off, posting all sorts of spam and BS, and I had no idea why. I told them to stop acting like douchebags and asked why the hell they were on our board, and then one of them PM'd me telling me what had happened at their site.

I was an avid member of BS from Day one. I thought there was way too much bu!!shit on that site especially from Trolls of the other boards. Most of my postings were arguing with Yanks about whether there "should" be Canadian teams in the "American" soccer league. It got real tiresome real quick. I am have been pretty stoked that there is good commentary/analysis/passion from this site at least everyonce in a while. The rest is purely entertainment.

I must have missed the porn site though. I think I only joined up on board V2.0

Came here from the old "Porno" RPB board

Same here. I was one of the first 50-60 on that board too. It was great seeing the evolution of that board. Started as a few of us dreaming about what was to come. Tracking the progress of BMO Field's construction. Anticipating when they were going to announce when we could buy our season tickets. I bet Simon had no idea his little board would amount to what it has become.

To be honest, I don't remember when I found this incarnate of the board. I found it trying to find the chant lists. But I initially found everything around TFCs first game, when I realized I'd be supporting this team, joined the facebook group, lurked around, went to the first 6 or 7 games, then left the country for 2 years and when I got back, needed to catch up on chants haha.

Now I can't get rid of it,I'm stuck with TFC news forever, forever, forever. :D

Started as a few of us dreaming about what was to come. Tracking the progress of BMO Field's construction.

yep. back then I would put the construction photos up on our old board, and on usector, and occasionally on BigSoccer. It really blew me away that there were other people out there who actually cared about my photos of a hole in the ground that would, one day, become a Soccer Stadium.

Yup, I encountered the same thing. A lot of them have some sort of mental defect that just can't accept Canadians or something.

Why the fuck does ensco need to be vindicated anyway?

Ensco's been posting on these boards for longer than most, and is fully entitled to air his opinions. He is neither rude nor inflammatory, (like me, for instance). He just sticks to his guns, which bothers some people who think WAAAY too much of their status in this group, and are unjustifiably indignant of people who use the board but aren't members.(registered users)

He was not incorrect when he stated that RPB (not the board) was originally intended to be specific to 112, nor is he incorrect when he points out that this board became so popular because it was accessible to everybody.

I'd argue the point about the board's popularity being due to Paul's regular appearances, but I'm pretty sure ensco's right when he states that this board would be nothing if that accessibilty wasn't there.

Kind of thought, if what certain people say is true, there'd be more responses like these. The vast majority of responses are more TFC related than RPB.

Early exit polling is showing that ensco is getting vindicated.

Flush, whoever you are, I know enough to know that you are a core heart/soul person around here...but you "dealt" with nothing and I don't need to dig deeper or think twice about what I wrote.

I experienced that early board as a total outsider, and my experience may have been different from yours and others, but it was what it was.

This board was very, very different in the early days. It was gold, in terms of having good discussion on potential players, drafts, the cap and rules (it blew away BS and usector on this), with a very heavy sprinkling of inside jokes about people that seemed to be almost entirely in Sec 112. All that Cashzilla stuff, etc, which was funny even for an older who had never met any of you! I was won over by the tone of the board, and others were too. And yes, even it you don't like it, mlsintoronto being here was a factor in choosing to start posting here - I got it, you think less of me for it, whatever.

This board is a very different board now. It's my problem, not yours. I got that.

^ Ensco, I agree that the forums we have now are nothing like the ones from the past. The problem is that back then we were under most people's radar's and the wide majority of posters here were legitimate supporters of the team and, perhaps most pertinent to the discussion, they were either members of the Red Patch Boys or at least had some respect for us. Unfortunately since early last season we've been inundated with forums members that really don't give a shit about our group and have been trying their damndest to bring these boards down. I recall one person mentioning how much of the shitstorms that occur here are the result of a handful of agents provacateur and I gotta agree with him on that.

I don't want to bring anything down. I just want the best quality discussion. Numerous RPBs are clearly amongst the most knowledgeable people on TFC and football anywhere. I just wish one didn't feel the need to tow the supporters line quite so much on here.

This is a RED PATCH BOYS board... A SUPPORTERS GROUP.

What's so hard to understand?

You are right to feel as you do.

The funny part is, maybe by accident, I don't know (no offence intended), this is far and away the best board on the team, even though it's declined a bit. bigsoccer remains particularly terrible, imho. There is a sizable cohort who care more about the discussion, as galling as that may be.

I'm not sure the two missions, being a board for supporters, and being a top discussion board, are compatible. That's why I was serious when I said you should go members only. It might work better if the two different missions were separated. Maybe all the great posters would stay here if you did go members only, I don't know, I guess I'd have to figure out who I am then. I don't dislike RPB, I'm just older and not much of a joiner/follower.

You put more effort into what you do than I do into posting. Take the club and its board where you need it to go. I'm just hoping that you can find away to keep being a great board as part of what this all becomes.

A final thought for you: the quality of the board gives the RPB supporters a real patina of quality, with the media and the public. It's worth trying to keep that, I think.
